What Is Going On With Colors In DP 8.0.5?

Post by cbird1057 »

I've updated to DP 8.05 and am confused about how colors are displaying in the Tracks window. Some of the colors in the COL column on the left look NOTHING like the colors displaying in the actual tracks

Purples are super hot pink, and dark blues show up as bright cyan. Do we need to help MOTU procure new monitors? Was someone wearing sunglasses to work? Rose colored lenses perhaps?

DP8 provides additional color customizations for audio track contents, specifically for audio waveforms and background. Check the Digital Performer Preferences>Display>Track Colors

I did work with the enhanced track colors feature, but the colors in the track window, whether audio or MIDI, do not match the display in the COL window.

It doesn't seem like the feature was fully tested.

Hey sorry, was away for a few weeks...

What I don't believe was fully tested is the way that colors are displayed in the DP 8.0.5 update.

The colors were fine in DP 8.0.4 but now they display differently in DP 8.0.5. The COL column in the Tracks window and the tracks themselves do not match. It's enough of an issue to be confusing when trying to determine which track is being edited by referencing the COL column.

I've figured out a workaround. Thanks for the input.

I don't know if this is any help or not, but I made this video after DP 8.01. I haven't noticed the colors being different for 8.0.5, or if I have, I've forgotten the change, as I still use the same methods I used in the video, and I change colors periodically for editing different tracks, so that the colors of the track I'm working on are always easy to see.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KrmbSFBF0k8

When I'm working on a track and my eyes get tired, often it's because that track isn't contrasty enough, and it makes it harder to see it than other tracks. It takes about half a second to change to a color that is more suited for detailed study for long periods.

Anyway, in the video I also explain the preferences. I think they still work the same way as they did in 8.0.1.

Thanks Shooshie for that video. It explains the new audio track colors in great detail!

However, in your own video you can see the color matching problem in 8.0.5

The colors in the COL column do not match the track colors displayed. The oranges and yellows in the audio tracks display as browns and blacks.

I've ended up replacing my template with colors that work better, but it still seems like something that deserves a fix.

You can make it match if you want to. It's all in the saturation/lightness settings. But as you can see, the header of each track matches. It's the body of the track that is of a different color, thanks to the settings. That actually works for me. But then... I'm the one who set the colors as they are.
