DP Plugin crashes

Post by TitusTanKG »

Dear all

need your expertise to assist one of my user with her DP on her new MBP, I am her System Engineer but have little knowledge on it. Appreciate it.

MBP spec:
15-inch 2.8GHz Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, NVIDIA GeForce 1GB

When we got it out of the box, we imaged using time machine and migration assistance form the old MBP to the new one, and issue like DP crashing and hanging starts to happens. After which we did a full reformat, reinstalled the application one by one, still the same issue.

Below are the pictures shot to capture the error message.

First thing to try is to raise the buffer: Setup > Configure Audio System > Configure Hardware Driver
DP10.13

The error messages are clear. The session is trying to load instances of Omnisphere and MachFive 2. There is not enough memory to load the samples.

The good news is you get an error message. The bad news is you then get a crash.

The fact that DP is trying to load MachFive 2 tells me that you are either running DP7, or DP8 in 32 bit mode. Either way the program is then restricted to using no more than 4 GB of available RAM.

To get this file open, Launch DP with the Shift key down. This will disable the audio engine. The file will open without the virtual instruments trying to load samples. Most likely the file will open ok. You can now delete or disable virtual instruments from the file. Once you have deleted enough VIs to lower the RAM usage to within 4 GB, you should be able to re-enable the MOTU Audio System (Setup menu>Audio System.

Dear friends

thank you for the replay.

can you guide me how to I check the DP that was installed, what version is it, is it 32 or 64bit i mean?

And if I use migration assistance to migrate the DP software from one machine to another, Can I use this procedure actually?

Please advise. thank you!

If you're using DP8, you can find the application in the Apps folder. Select that and get info (command - I). There you will see a little check box for which mode, 32 or 64 bit. If you are using DP8, and you can use 64 bit you should.. except that Mach 5 Version 2 is not capable of 64 bit (Mach 5 ver. 3 is, and is highly recommended.

As far as Migration assistant, I just don't know if it would work or not.. but if it were me, I would take the time to move everything by hand, that way I know I'm starting off clean.

Migration assistant has nothing to do with your problem. You are just porting everything from one Mac to another. Installing "clean" will not fix this.

Your issues are quite solvable.

One is that MachFive2 is an old version that should be updated to v.3 run 64bit so that it can use some of that 16G memory.

We don't know if you are running DP 7 which is 32bit only or DP 8 in 32bit. We know that you are running in 32bit because DP 8 in 64bit mode would not try to load MachFive2.

You should be using DP 8 in 64bit mode - again, you will be able to access that RAM and use it more efficiently.

OmniSphere, too, is a major RAM hog but it can be tamed. There are threads on that as well. Again, the way to do that is in DP 8 in 64bit mode. I have no idea if you will need to update your version of Omnisphere to run it in 64bit. It will depend on the version that you have.
