WARNING when you upgrade MOTU PCI Audio driver to 1.31. I use a MOTU HD192 i/o. A few hours after upgrading suddenly the level dropped. I switched Audiowire connections and the level came back. Then it dropped again. I thought I was destroying my PCIe card with a bad HD192 or something.
Ripped it all apart – that is not the problem. There was no problem except....
The new PCI-242 control panel (the one that comes up when you click on the vintage mic icon) has a new checkbox.
"Enable Volume Controls"
This new 1.31 update arrives with this box checked (or it did in my case). That means you can control your system volume from your Mac keyboard using the F11 and F12 keys.
Not a great idea for professional studios, but for people who work with a lot of Playlists in iTunes (like DJs using Traktor or Deckadance) it is useful to control iTunes output the way we do on our laptops.

Re: Drop in Audio output level using PCIe-424 card
Cool! I'm glad to know it's there. I've always wanted them to add that, and I've never understood why they didn't. Actually, I thought it had been there for a while. I control levels on my Firewire legacy 896 box with my system audio levels controls. So, maybe it's been there for a while, or maybe they put it on the Firewire box first. In any case, I'm glad to know it's there for both. It's quite useful!
