Switched to DP 8.05 and Maverick - paste doesn't work

Post by remmet »

After upgrading to DP 8.05 and Maverick (10.9), some weird things are happening. Most troublesome, the copy and paste function has gone haywire. I'll copy a MIDI passage and paste it into another MIDI track, and 80% of the notes never arrive. The notes that ARE pasted all seem to be on downbeats spaced 2 or 3 beats apart, and they are all single notes - i.e., any chords are gone.

Additionally (and this was happening prior to these upgrades), audio tracks occasionally acquire ghosts, where a shadowed version of the soundbite appears in the track either on top of the real soundbite, or where no audio has actually been placed. If I click on the ghost-bite, it disappears, revealing either the real soundbite or the unoccupied space in the track.

Conversely, after the upgrades, I've occasionally experienced a soundbite disappearing from an audio track, even though it plays back properly like it's still there. When I click in the track area where the soundbite should be visible, it sometimes pops back into visibility, but sometimes it doesn't. Needless to say, it's very disconcerting.

Anyone have ideas about what's going on here?

Thanks.

Something is obviously very wrong here. It's not something that is happening to everybody or this board would be full of reports. Not seeing that here.

I just noticed that the shift command isn't working right either. Is it possible that key commands are conflicting with Maverick's macros?

As James said, if there was a native conflict between DP and Mavericks this board would be on fire with similar complaints.

It's much more likely that you have a bad install of one or the other, that the project file you're working in is corrupted, or that repairing disk permissions and restarting the machine will clear it up... Mysteriously, but who cares why when you just want it working?

I repaired disk permissions and repaired the disk, but the problem persists.

One possible clue: When I paste something, only every 4th note appears!

Additionally, the shift function acts bizarrely if I try shifting more than one note at a time. Likewise with the merge function. This happens both in the MIDI event lists and in the MIDI editor.

HOWEVER, I'm only having these problems when shifting or merging MIDI notes. Both functions work fine on controller data. And I can shift multiple soundbites without any problems.

Is is possible that MIDI notes are trapped in some sort of grid? Or is that even possible?

Have you tried to see if you can reproduce this on an entirely NEW project? Shooting in the dark here, but maybe it's some sort of project corruption? I'm at a loss. :(

I just opened a new project, made a simple 4-bar piano part, and pasted the notes into a new MIDI track. Same problem.

If there's a way to post a screen shot of the two MIDI event lists side by side, it will illustrate what's happening.

Since this only seems to effect MIDI notes but not other data, I just have a suspicion that some setting is configured wrong somewhere. Something's causing a conflict.

I'm very sorry I'm not of more help. That's very strange. I might suggest reinstalling DP, but I really don't know if that would do any good. Very odd. Perhaps try to call MOTU technical support?

That sounds like Mac failure. Hardware failure. Maybe OS. It's not DP. At least… it's not normal DP.

This sounds vaguely familiar, kind of like this view filter bug. I'm spitballing this hard-to-follow thread as a possible solution:

Also, check your RAM with a fine toothed comb:

Reset your NVRAM and maybe your PRAM, too.

WOW! This bug has been around awhile. I think MOTU needs to know. If no one wants to report it, I will. Magic Dave?
