HELP!!! DP 4.61 Crashing (Probem Solved 11/19/2005)
Hello Folks. It nice to be part of a community of people who uses the same software. I'll try to keep my issue brief.
For the most part, I have been running DP4.52 with MachFive & SampleTank, 16 Audio Tracks & Effects (MOTU) with zero problems. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for DP4.61. When I upgraded to 4.61, I could open a previous DP 4.52 file, but when I try to save my changes, DP would crash, then a message would appear to report the bug to apple.
I usually slow to upgrade. When my system is running fine, I HATE to make changes to it.
Any advice at this point would be very welcome.
Thanks in Advance.

This may not be the most helpful advice at all but, i've had similar issues sometimes, not so much as you are having but... i had to back track and see if there have been any slight differences that i may have made, regardless of how miniscule they may seem, in my system set up regarding file and directory allocation and other things etc . i had similar problems once and it ended up having to do with some mystery plug-ins and installations that i'd done that weren't gelling with DP(?? still not sure why). i trashed a few plug-ins and so on and never had the problem again. Proably stating the obvious, however, if my advice is crap, hopefully the sense of moral is there. Best of luck. HR

Dear HaydnWalker & Dave Pine,
Thank you so much for your quick responses. Here is what I found.
I only have two Virtual Instruments. SampleTank2 XL & MachFive.
1. I loaded a project that contained MIDI info that triggered ST2 & M5 in DP 4.61. This file was originally saved as a DP 4.52 file.
I could not get DP to play the file because the rainbow colored spinning disk would not allow me to do anything in DP. I had to force quit DP.
2. I loaded the project again and I unplugged the iLok key from the USB port to disable M5. I got the disk again.
3. I removed ST2 plug-in from the folder and relaucned the project. Lo and Behold, 4.61 did not crash, and it allowed me to do a "save as" to a 4.52 project and a save in 4.61.
4 After I was done with the project I Quit DP. However, I got a message that DP unexpectantly quit but the file did save. The changes were intact and I was able to load any DP 4.52 file I wanted.
Unfortunately,
I can no longer use ST2. I think I will load reason and use my friends NNXT and REX file library
Thank you SOOOOOOO much for your help.
RJ

Hey T,Tonio wrote:RJ, did you know that ST2.1 is out? You should be eligible for the update.
Still on DP4.5 here, so I can't give you any definitive answer.

Thanks for the info

After deleting ST2 from my setup, I'm not sure I want to reinstall the update. A friend of mine just informed me that he has been having trouble at the studio with DP 4.61 and IK Multimedia's Amplitube & Altiverb since he upgraded from DP 4.52.
I must say that MachFive seems to work better than before.
Take Care,
RJ

Good Morning, echostudios wrote:I have had multiple problems with IK Multimedia plugs. I had to remove them in 4.52, constantly causing DP to crash. Now in 4.6 I re-installed them and all is good. They just seem to cause somekind of conflict... guess I'll wait for 4.61 and see what happens.
So do you think if I were to re-install ST2.1 my problems will go away. I'm so cautious at this point. I think I'll just use Machfive and buy Akai Format CD's from BigFish Audio. A friend of mine uses Reason as his sound bank. Judging from his latest production I may go that route.
Thanks for writing.

HELP!!! DP 4.61 Crashing (Problem SOLVED)
I was using DP 4.52 with Panther 10.3.2. I tried to upgrade to DP 4.6 but it just would not work out for me. (My upgrade path is usually very slow and methodical). I was crashing every time I tried to do a function from the file menu.
Anyway, after joining Unicornation I read the posts that I felt were important to my specific circumstances. I then decided to upgrade to Panther 10.3.9 and reinstalled DP 4.6 and my newly purchased Machfive. I was so HAPPY to see EVERYTHING working so smoothly. Maybe I'm overly excited but I think my computer is actually running more effecient as well.
I'm in the process of starting another project and I can now report that, from my recent tests, I am able to play 10 MIDI tracks, 16 tracks of audio, and minimal DP effects. I wanted to push the system a bit just to see how far I can go, however, I realize that I can record my MIDI tracks to relieve the strain on my processor.
My setup is listed below
!!!!!! I LOVE DP 4.6 !!!!!!!!!!!!!

SampleTank 2.09 seemed to fix some of the problems 2.0 had, 2.1.1 just came out and guess what? Spinning beach ball time! For me this is pretty random, but it's happened several times this evening. I open a project, press Play (spacebar), tune plays through. Stop, edit something (anything) press play again -- hang...RJ Wade Music wrote:Good Morning, echostudios wrote:I have had multiple problems with IK Multimedia plugs. My guess is that ST 2.1.1 is the culprit, since it's the latest thing to change on my system. Interesting, when I Get Info on the .component file, it says it's v.2.1 (no extra .1). And, I removed it from my Components folder and DP is doing better...
IK is a bit of a disappointment, overall...
