Listening from internal speakers to headphones crashes DP 8

Post by reddoorsound »

Hi All,
I wonder if you have this issue. DP 8.05 crashes without fail whenever I change listening from the internal speakers on my MacBook Pro (Mavericks 10.9) to headphones (by plugging into the headphone) or the other way around.
This happens when I am on the sequence window, double-clicking sound files and selecting some region to audition them.

Here is the error notice.

Any help? I also submitted this issue to MOTU.

Actually sounds like an OS issue to me.

Can anyone reproduce this problem on your MacBook Pro?

I've never noticed a crash, but it is really obvious that starting with at least 10.7 or 10.8, Mac OS started making high-level changes to the audio whenever you plug/unplug the headphones, and it's REALLY annoying. It used to be just a dumb switch: you plug in the headphones, and it shuts off the speakers. Now, the OS actually recognizes that there's a change and initializes the CoreAudio framework, treating them like two different devices. This often causes DP and other host programs to reload VIs and effects, which was never the case before.

So, I haven't tried it, but I believe it.

On my MBP, prior to DP 8.05 and OS 10.9, I got an alert when plugging in headphones saying that the audio system had changed, and offering the option to go to MIDI only, which I could reject, and get sound on the headphones. Not a crash.

With the update to 8.05 / 10.9, I don't get the message. The output just switches to the headphones. No crash.
