MIDI control change for transpose?

Post by theaks2002 »

HI List...
just curious if there is a MIDI cc for transposing? Quite often my live piano requires playing in different octaves depending on the tune. I'd like to set it up with a command in the opening bar if I can. I do have a transpose button on my relic XP-50 which works fine if it doesn't stick.
Can't take that chance anymore as it often won't go back and I'm pounding on the transpose switch.
thanks for any help!

Probably need to look at a SysEx command rather than a Continuous Controller. If so, the command could be placed in the opening bar.

Yes but...

I have two M-Audio Axiom controllers. But I rarely use them with my M3m.
I control the M3m with a Roland RS-50. And for some reason, I have
to transpose both the Roland and the M3m.

Think about pad chords. Yes -- the controller will transpose the notes
on the M3 if you play the keys. But what if you use a pad chord in your
piece along with the keys? When you do, the pads suddenly become your
controller, not the Axiom.

That's why I have to transpose both, one for the parts I play
on the keys and then I transpose the M3m for the pads.

Hi theaks2002,
Place these 3 CC in this order for transposition at the start of the measure or wherever section you need transposed:
CC Value

101 = 0
100 = 2
6 = 64

Just set each CC to about 5 ticks apart from one another.
64 = no transposition. 63 = Half step down. 64 = Half step up.

Hope this is what you're looking for.
