Windows Issues with Mavericks... [SOLVED]... almost!

Post by MIDI Life Crisis »

It appears I can't span a window between two monitors in mvks. I've also had some issues just moving windows between monitors.

Anyone else?

UPDATE: Short answer: System Preferences/Mission Control/Displays Have Separate Spaces

Uncheck. Log out and back in. All well and good again!

UP UPDATE:

There still a bug in there. In full screen on monitor 1 in Safari, for example, if I remove a tabbed window to self-standing and move it to monitor 2, it goes to "full screen" in monitor 2 but not true full screen, it just fills the monitor. If, however, you move the second screen into true full screen, you loose the windows on the first monitor and it turns grey. Taking the second monitor out of full screen returns the control of the 1st monitor back, but the original screens are still gone. I hope that makes some sense. It's convoluted to describe.

Update: In general, windows are doing weird things. Dialogue boxes sometimes appear in the 2nd monitor when all work is being done in the first. Little kinks to be worked out?

Seeing window menus items not redrawing properly. Reopening the window fixes it, but there's definitely something wonky going on in the windows in OS 10.9.

I'm running Mavericks now, MLC, and I'm not seeing the weird windows behavior. Seems to work like it always did, and I'm really liking the Menu-Bar-in-both-monitors thing.

Here's a quick and dirty movie of the main issue.

Since I can't take a screen recording of two monitors I had to use my iPhone. Sorry for the poor quality but you get the idea.

I toggled the Arrange part of the System Prefs/Displays and even moved the main monitor to the second monitor but nothing works.

Another thing...

If an app is in full screen in one monitor and I switch to the Finder (for example) on the second monitor, the screen with the full screen app stays in full screen and I can't move windows to that monitor. I really wish I could defeat the "feature" that allows the Finder and Dock to appear on both monitors as I believe that is what is causing the problem.

Gotta wonder if a lot of these problems are because except for the professional market, most users have just one monitor? I bet it's around 95% or more. All the home users probably don't have multiple monitors.

A lot of home users I know still have 15" single screens, iMacs, or laptops but as you said,, one screen and usually one 500GB drive. Oh for the simple life... :}
