DP 8.05 & iZotope RX3 Denoiser

Post by guitardood »

Hello All,
Just wondering if anyone else is having RX3 crashes since updating to 8.05?

If I try to pull up the denoiser plugin either as an insert or with the "Apply Plugin" option, it opens with a completely blank white area where the plugin's UI should be. DP's plugin window header and footer with the 'Preview' & 'Apply' buttons are there but the area where the plugin's UI should be is totally blank. If you click the 'Close Window' (upper left corner) or hit Command-W, both RX3 & DP crash with their respective "Report the Crash" screens.

This was working fine prior to 8.05. RX3 Versions 3.00 & 3.01 behave the same. OS is the latest updated Mountain Lion on a Mac Pro 8-core w/32gb.

I'm getting the same thing. The AU gives the error you describe. The VST gives different errors but both crash DP 8.05. Hum Removal and the other RX 3 tools do the same thing.

Apparently it's the GUI. I opened a project that had both Hum Removal and Denoiser inserted on various tracks - both RX 2 and RX 3 - and everything's fine on the back end but, open the GUI or try it insert anything and Crash goes DP. Only the VSTs generate a crash report for Izotope on my system.

Are you running RX 3 or 3.01? Ahhhh... I see you answered that. OK - no difference.

RX 2, OTOH, still works fine as does Nectar 1.14, Alloy 2 and Ozone 5.04.

Debating whether I should go back to DP 8.04 or RX 2 till this gets resolved.

I'd go back to RX2, and send a tech support email to Izotope. They're
good at responding. In fact I'm sure they're aware of it already.

One other possibility to explore - Izotope plugs default to MAS versions
in DP. You could try removing the MAS versions from your MAS plugs folder,
starting DP, and seeing if you can pull up the AU version of RX3.

Not in DP 8 - you select which version you use. As I indicated, the AU and VST give different symptoms on their way to crashing DP.
You could try removing the MAS versions from your MAS plugs folder,
RX 3 does not install MAS versions - at least there are none in my folder. Removing the MAS versions of RX and RX 2 had no effect.

Just for kicks, I tried removing the VST 3 versions as well. No difference.

Good suggestions, though - one never knows... I did send the Izotope crash reports in and emailed follow up. We'll see.

Thanks!

Thanks for the replies!

For now, I'm going to just use RX2 till they get this resolved.

BTW, I do not have MAS version of RX3 either.

MAS is now no mas. I believe MOTU is phasing it out. No pun intended.

I've not used it since DP 4.something

Anyway, Tech Links and support emails have been sent. Perhaps there's a preference or resource file that I can trash. We'll see what happens.

Since I have no issues with DP 8.04 except a minor monitoring issue while overdubbing - for which there's an easy workaround - I'll be reverting for now.

Word has gotten out that I can do amazing things with old cassette recordings and RX is my not so secret weapon. Frankly, there's not much difference between 2 and 3 except that the GUI for 3 is far less of a resource hog in DP 8.

I've not heard back from Izotope but MOTU can reproduce the issue - except the AU isn't crashing DP, only the VST. Same white screen in the GUI, however.

Anyway, this may slow me down a little but that's all.

I'm now scouring eBay for some hardware to play back some of the cassette projects that I'm about to take on. I found a Dolby B decoder with independent output control yesterday for $22 shipped. This will let me resolve stereo images on old tapes in a way not possible with software. Now I'm looking for a 4 track dual speed deck where I can switch out noise reduction - hoping to pay under $150 and it looks like I will. I can't believe that I'm buying analog gear again.

I'm finding it interesting that screwing around with a home made tape someone sent me 25 years ago - just because I wanted to see if I could make it sound good - has opened up a nice little business opportunity for me.

I guess I need to upgrade to RX 3 Advanced to have access to the Azimuth correction tool. I may as well do this right...

Was hoping this might help with RX3, there's an updater for v. 3.01 but the date is on the 17th - too early to address the issues, so maybe not?

I updated to OS 10.9 Mavericks, ran Repair Permissions and DP 8.05 is now working with RX 3.0.

I tried all of the plugs in a test file, both VST and AU, except Spectral Repair - it behaves differently and I like most prefer it as stand alone.

Alrighty then! Closing out my Tech Link. I believe this one has been solved.

Just ran into the same problem with RX3.02 and DP 8.05. Crash when closing the blank white window. The good news is iZotope does have a new build (3.02 build 848) that works fine in DP. Contact tech support and they'll very helpfully send a link.
