Power Failure = Corrupt File

Post by spinnaker »

While working on a DP project last night there was a power failure. After five minutes the power came back on I was unable to reopen the project.
We have the G5 and all external drives etc. connected to an APC Power Backup system that failed when the power went off..
I tried duplicating the project and opening it without luck.. Has anyone experienced a similar problem?
Does anyone know of a workaround to open this seemingly corrupt file?

G5 2.5 4 Gig Ram
DP 4.6
OSX 10.4
Thank you..

OUCH! Sorry to hear that. It sounds like your UPS is not quite beefy enough for your G5 AND all those drives. The G5's power supply is highly demanding of UPSs and you need at least a 1000VA unit if you want to attach all those drives too. As for your data, I'm afraid I don't think there's a whole lot that can be done. I hope you have a backup so that at least you don't have to start from scratch. I had the same thing happen to me back when I had my SE30.

I agree, the G5 starting tripping my lil ole UPS 650VA on powerup so I had to upgrade.

Spinnaker:

Have you tried opening a new DP file and under File, Load... to see if you can import the apparently damaged file that way?

Good luck!

Concerning UPS's - The batteries have to be replaced occasionally. Over time they lose the ability to keep their charge, same as about every other battery out there.

No luck with the file.. We had the sd2 files and had to start from scratch.. Big Job.. but we did complete the project..
I will have to check the batteries on the APC.. That could very well be the problem..
Thanks everyone..
