Hi everyone,
I would ask you if someone has ever linked two MOTU 828 MK3 firewire together.
The goal is to use Cuemix fx as a mixer and to use the 2 main output and 2 phones on the front pannels as phones monitor.
I hope someone help me
Giorgio

Easiest way would be to lightpipe one into the other. That way you have only one Cue Mix console to control both. Make sure the receiving unit clocks to the sending unit or you'll get clicks.

Re: How to link two 828 mk3 firewire
Everything works fine:
I linked each other with firewire and optical cable.
I set up the 2nd Motu as slave in Audio Motu Setup.
I had some problems with Cuemix to put all the inputs in one mixer. I set up the buses of the slave Motu to send signals via ADAT outputs to the master Motu. The only things I cannot put in operation are phones outputs of the slave Motu but I resolved this problem connecting a phone amplifier to the main out of the master Motu.
Thank you Rockitcity!

Re: How to link two 828 mk3 firewire
You only need firewire to one unit. The other will just be additional inputs via ADAT. This way you will see only one Cue Mix console with the ADAT inputs being the 2nd 828 outputs. Just slave the 2nd 828 to the main unit via word clock and it will follow any sample rate/bit depth settings from the 1st (which should follow your sequencer settings).
You are correct that your headphone out from the 2nd 828 will not work in cue mix, but that's a small price to pay for the ease of use having both units in one Cue Mix console.

Re: How to link two 828 mk3 firewire
You should do it the proper way which is connect both interfaces with firewire cables. 1 cable from your computer to the 1st interface. Than another cable from your 1st interface to the other.
Open MOTU Audio Setup dans configure interface #1 as master and interface #2 as slave. Not need for wordclock cables. All clocking is done though the firewire cable.
You will have all inputs and outputs available from 2 cuemix mixers. What i do to monitor both unit without loosing to much I/O's is send a submix from #1 to #2 through SPDIF and send a submix from #2 to #1 through SPDIF. Don't send the SPDIF inputs back to the SPDIF outputs........that's it.
That system will give you 16 line inputs, 4 mic inputs and 32 ADAT inputs for a total of 52 inputs (and a mix of 48 outputs) and you can monitor from interface #1 or #2.
Or keep it simple and ADAT one 828 to the other. No need for a firewire cable on interface #2 : ADAT output from #2 to ADAT input on interface #1. All monitored through interface #1 in one cuemix.

More than one way to skin a cat, of course. Depends on how deep you want to get.rockitcity wrote:Easiest way would be to lightpipe one into the other. That way you have only one Cue Mix console to control both. Make sure the receiving unit clocks to the sending unit or you'll get clicks.
