So after trying to instal a USB 3 card in my 09 Mac Pro and having it make it hard to start, pushing the start button over and over, removing all USB and Firewire cables etc. I removed the card, but the problems persist. Seems the extra draw was the straw that broke the camels back, and the Power Supply died.
Took it to the Apple Store Genius Bar thinking, well they at least will diagnose it for free and let me know for sure that it's the power supply. It turns out that they have return policy on power supplies. Buying one and installing it yourself would cost roughly $295, if you buy it from them, they instal it and it was $208 = tax here in Seattle.
So, for certain things, the Apple store is actually cheaper than doing it yourself.
