Re: Anyone using Thunderbolt PCIe expansion?
Just to further clarify as I'm in the same boat as the above poster and looking to upgrade my Mac Pro 1,1. Just got off the phone with the Magic One and it's more than just the 2408 MKII, it's any MOTU interface that uses the 424 card. All are incompatible with Tbolt expansion. A Firewire, USB, or Tbolt audio interface will work.
DP 8.07 64 bit, OS 10.10.5, Mac Pro 5,1 12-core 3.33ghz, 16GB ram, lots 'o plugs and VIs
Re: Anyone using Thunderbolt PCIe expansion?
Maybe it's time to dump the interfaces onto ebay and get something else before they become obselete .. shame really - great interfaces - rock solid - I run 48 channels of audio in and 40 out on mine with no problem at all.
Re: Anyone using Thunderbolt PCIe expansion?
Would PCIe to Firewire adapter work ?

Re: Anyone using Thunderbolt PCIe expansion?
Damn! Me too, James. Actually, my 192 has been in storage in Arizona in the stuff of my late musical partner since 2007, and I was always thinking I'd best go get that, but now it's probably not going to be worth it. And, here at the studio I have my 1296, which was the primo interface before the HD192, and its convertors may have actually been better than the newer one. So, I'm going to be giving up the 1296, too. And my 2408! That's 3 great interfaces going obsolete on me soon. Fortunately, my 896 still works great, and it's what I use on remote gigs, anyway.James Steele wrote:It would be a shame. My hope is that MOTU will encounter enough resistance (or encouragement) to figure out a way to rewire the PCI 424 cards and/or boxes for Thunderbolt.

Re: Anyone using Thunderbolt PCIe expansion?
Motu should warn people about that PCI will not work. Or maybe we should. Shame if anyone spends that money now. My whole set up is based on pci with my 2408.

Nope, I'm probably not going to replace those either. I haven't used them in years, though. Just sayin...

Re: Anyone using Thunderbolt PCIe expansion?
I can't imagine a solution for these interfaces is not technically possible. It just must not be a big enough demand to develop it? Which makes me wonder if some users might go from Mac to Windows at some point to continue making speed gains on their host machine without boat anchoring their interfaces?labman wrote:I concur. I don't want to think about trying to sell my interfaces.

Re: Anyone using Thunderbolt PCIe expansion?
Other manufacturers have gotten their PCI-e products to work in an expansion chassis with a driver update.

Re: Anyone using Thunderbolt PCIe expansion?
Well it would be nice if MOTU could do this. I think it would get them a lot of good will points, not unlike UA stepping up and supporting Mac's that can run 64-bit apps but only boot 32-bit kernel.cbm wrote:Other manufacturers have gotten their PCI-e products to work in an expansion chassis with a driver update.
