Komplete 5 w/ DP 8 and ML

Post by Babz »

I have been gradually migrating old software over to my new Mac Mini running DP 8.0.4 (64-bit) and OS 10.8.4 Mountain Lion. My previous computer has NI Komplete 5 on it. I am planning on upgrading to latest Komplete, but it's not in the budget right now.

For now, can anyone tell me if it is possible to run any of my old Komplete 5 on latest DP (64-bit) and OS X ML?

Latest versions I can download without paying for an upgrade are:

Kontakt 3.5
Massive 1.3.1
Reaktor 5.58
Guitar Rig 3.2.1
FM8 1.2.1
Absynth 4.0.5
Battery 3.2.3

Has anyone been able to use any of these with current DP?
Some or all of them may not be "officially" supported, but I've got other older NI stuff running. Most of all I would really like to get some version of Kontakt and Guitar Rig happening.

Thanks,
Babz

Not sure if a few of those aren't 32bit only - i.e. Kontakt 3 (and Absynth 4 as well?)

Kontakt 5 alone is worth the upgrade, IMHO.

I don't think Kontakt 3.5.3 or Guitar Rig 3.2.1 will work reliably in ML, if at all. The rest will, I believe.

I agree with Kubi, I'd spring for Kontakt 5. No new Kontakt format libraries
are being released in anything but K5 format. And it's much better than K3, for sure.

NI sometimes has a sale on upgrading Komplete, it's usually around Oct. or November,I'm waiting to see if they have this so I can upgrade to K9U.
As an upgrade during a eol sale Komplete can be obtained for a reasonable price.........time will tell.

Agreed Kontakt 5 is much better than
K 3.5.

Yes, I was hoping to do the upgrade to K9U next time they have a sale. Trouble is, I've got a project w/ an early Oct. deadline, and I really need something like Kontakt for it. I've still got my fully functional K5 library on an external VI-host PC, but I'm trying to leave that work pattern behind. Would be so much more Konvenient to do it all in one computer. Just need to assign some loop/phrase samples to keys. I have only rarely explored DPs Nano Sampler, but I doubt that is up to my needs.

Would the Free Kontakt Player 5 be any use for your project? It comes with a decent selection of sounds and should handle your existing library.

Thanks, I have the FREE player installed, but I need to be able to create my own instruments. I'm about ready to break down and order K9U. :)

What I need to do is assign phrases to be trigger by keys.

BTW, does anyone know how to turn off/disable velocity sensitivity in a Kontakt instrument? I am assigning sound phrases, spoken words, etc. and I want them to always play back at fixed velocity.

Is there some other instrument besides Kontakt that would be better for this?

Thanks,
Babz

You can use a MIDI velocity plug in in DP with any VI... set to your preferred velocity.

Thanks, HC. Interesting workaround. But isn't there a way to program fixed velocity to an instrument in KONTAKT?

Best,

Yes. Disable Velocity>Amp Mod. If you are setting up a patch from scratch, it will be easy enough.

A thought: if you plan on using a single patch and spreading your vox samples across the keyboard, you may want to have some velocity control over volume and use the "workaround" noted previously. That way you can set up different tracks per sound (or "split notes" to separate tracks after recording) and you will be able to control relative volumes of the samples by adjusting the plug in velocity value or range, or by changing velocity values manually.

Of course, you can also change the level of each sample within Kontakt, but the above method would allow you some ability to mix relative sample levels dynamically.
