4 Pre and 4pin firewire cable
I have been a 2408 user for years and just recently got the 4 Pre to use with my laptop. I have an ADK Pro Audio laptop that is running XP Pro and is still in good shape so I wanted to use it. I tried using the firewire connection going from 9 pin to 4 pin and the 4 Pre isnt recognized. When I use USB all funtions work. The cord I used was a 9 to 4 pin Gearware cord from Radio Shack. Any ideas???
Re: 4 Pre and 4pin firewire cable
Try a 4 pin to 4 pin firewire 400 cable.
If your laptop is 6 pin, then instead, try a 6 pin to 4 pin 400 cable.
Don't use any 9.
In all likelihood, your laptop is 6 and 4Pre is definitely 4, so you would need this:

Make sure that IEEE1394 is showing well and enabled in the Device Manager (devmgmt.msc).
