Color-Coding iTunes Tracks

Does anyone know of a way (perhaps with 3rd-party software/plug-in) to color-code tracks in iTunes? I'd get some great use out of it. Basically, I wish it worked just like color-coding works in the Finder.

I'm not aware of any software that does this, but perhaps you could find out if you can do it yourself with Apple-scripts.... For free

Launch Apple Script editor. From one of the menus open the dictionaries and open the one for iTunes. If you see any properties that deal with display color it might be possible to create a script for what you want (you can perform a search within the dictionary in the standard way at the top right of that window).

Be careful, though! This scripting business can become addictive quickly!

I just checked the iTunes dictionary, and I don't see a track color property, unfortunately...

But it might be there hidden under a different property name. iTunes is highly scriptable, so perhaps there's hope.

I found these links, but I suspect they are for editing the color labels of the tracks in the Finder, and not in iTunes, like you want.

There's quite a steep learning curve for applescripting too, so I'm not sure it would be worth your time learning it just for this necessity.
But I can tell you Applescripting is LOTS of fun, especially when you make your computer do things you want the way you want. I've managed a few things (mostly with the Finder) with it and it's really cool
