Automation weirdness with pitch corrected tracks

Post by Killahurts »

I've noticed that if I do fader automation on a track where pitch correction has been done, or even on a track where it hasn't been done, but it's in a sequence that has it on other tracks, I hear very strange jittering of the audio up and down while in write mode, like a warbling sound. It's very distracting when I'm trying to automate volumes. I tried it without my controller, just with the mouse, and got the same thing.

Upon playback, everything is OK and the recorded automation is correct. The workaround apparently is to freeze the pitch corrected tracks before automation, or if you're in a hurry, just trudge your way through the weird sound to record the moves..

Hey, I had this yesterday, but there was no pitch correction involved.

I noticed it when I was automating fadeouts on the final chord of a piece. It happened on each instrument that had a long sustain. I use a Euphonix MCMix. As you say, a weird kind of warbling - it was in a rhythm, for a moment I looked to see if I had a delay on the channel, but no. Playback was fine.

I'm sorry to have to admit that I am finding DP rather clunky for mixing these days. I probably wouldn't have realised, but I flip between mixing in DP and PT on the same machine, and PT works flawlessly with the MCMix, and on the whole is more responsive. In DP I feel like there is a lag, which is disconcerting.

I get other occasional weirdness in DP when making fader moves with the controller. Sometimes the moves I make cannot be heard until they are played back.

I have to uninstall and reinstall the Eucon software regularly, as it seems to lose its connection with DP.

Cheers!

Hey Stephen, part of your problem may be the MC Control.. Avid have no reason for it to work as well with DP, or any other DAW that is not Protools.. you know how they are

But I'm glad to hear you say it's happening with non pitch corrected tracks as well- I have, since posting this, discovered the same thing. This never happened to me in 7.24, but we went through the first few versions of DP8 so fast, I have no way of knowing where problem began.

I will check this out without my controller today and see if I get the same result.

This is a serious issue, I cannot afford to have it happen in front of clients.
