Ultralite mk3 hybrid Input signal -40dB cubase

Post by infamy »

Hi guys, I have another problem with my motu (could be a problem in cubase).
Ok, so i have my synth connected to analogue 3-4 stereo in my motu, in device setting on cubase i made sure that stereo in is analogue 3-4..
I created an audio track with those inputs.
Now when i play notes on the synth and i monitor them via cuemix, the sound is fine, when i mute cuemix and monitor on cubase it sounds exactly the same, however, the signal in the audio track shows -40dB, when i record and playback, there is pretty much no sound (need a compressor maxed out to hear anything.
Now i have +22 trim on the sound card and the meters on the motu go right to the top.

Would you guys regard this as a cubase problem or a problem with my audio interface? Any troubleshooting suggestions? Possibly a setting in cuemix is sending a low signal to my pc maybe?

If MOTU CueMix shows levels fine and you are hearing everything fine outside of and inside of Cubase, then it is very likely just some Cubase setting throwing things out of whack.

If I think of something, I'll let ya know.

You could try resetting Cubase to default if it has such a thing.

Maybe check the EQ on the left side of Cubase, so that it isn't doing anything weird?

Yeah its a really strange one.. i trashed cubase preferences and restarted and still same problem (cubase 5) i even tried in brand new cubase 7 trial same thing..
The real weird thing is if i add compression on cubase +42 input gain on the track then i can hear it (with the awful over compressed distortion)..
Now if its not cubase and its not motu, then windows maybe?
In playback devices under the recording tab, should anything be set as default? i currently have MOTU Analog as default, not sure if this makes a difference..
