Ultralite mk3 multiple output playback simultaneously

Post by infamy »

Hey guys, ok so i just bought my ultralite mk3 and have the latest drivers installed(windows7).. however.. i can only play 2 outputs at a time which defeats the purpose of me upgrading my audio interface..
I'm sorry i am sure its something simple but i just can't find the answer..
My main studio monitors are connected to the main outputs.
I have my sub connected to analog 1-2
Now when i right click on the sound icon on the bottom right of my screen and i go to playback settings, im given 7 options, MOTU Main Out 1-2
MOTU Analog 1-2, MOTU Analog 3-4 etc etc.. so my monitors are connected to MOTU Main Out 1-2 and my sub is MOTU Analog 1-2..
The problem is i can only set 1 as default meaning i can only hear either the monitors or sub depending on which i set to default..
So my question is, how do i fix this irritating problem and playback all my outputs simultaneously.
Thanks

There are many ways of achieving your objective.

Do you have CueMix installed? Have you found the MOTU Audio Console?

If so a simple method, which I thought was the install default but it's been a while, is to proceed as follows.

In the audio console for Main Out Assign select Analog 1-2 from the drop down list.

In your application direct main output to MOTU Analog 1-2.

Job done!

There is a slightly irritating limitation on the Ultralite. The USB output from your digital device can only be sent direct to a single output pair. There are various ways around this but for now you might want to use a spare cable to loop the S/PDIF output back into the S/PDIF input. Then you can use a CueMix mixer to send audio to as many outputs pairs as you wish.

Spend a few hours just messing about. You will soon get the hang of it. Have fun.

As RD above says, there are numerous ways to go about it.

Another way is to copy your mix bus one (ctrl + c, while on it) to mix bus two (ctrl + v, while on this.)

Then set the output for two to your sub.

I made a very detailed post about this within the last month or so in case you want to search it.

Mmmm setting up 5.1 in cubase seems impossible now that all the outs need to be assigned to spdif... Now iv'e never used a mac before but are they able to run multiple sound outputs at once? Rather than pc where i can only set one as default...
