DP8.04 Timecode OSX 10.8.4

Hello All,

New DP8 user here. I recently switched from Pro Stools after they wanted me to upgrade and loose all the features I paid about $2k for to get 64 bit.

Anyway, I am digging DP8, but I can't seem to get past this issue of timecode showing in the sequence editor track, but not in the sidebar movie or popout.

I put the timecode in the movie as a new track overlay using toki.

This is my first forum post ever take it easy on me,

as I generally stay with a problem until I figure it out.

I think you need to go to Time Formats under setup (?) to get individual formats or setup a default for all windows. Not at DP at the moment.

MC, I use Toki as well and, as I recall, there was a glitch with the latest version of Toki & Mt. Lion. Let me get back to DP this afternoon and I'll double-check it for you...
In the meantime, first thing to check would be; after you've made a TC burned-in copy with Toki, if you open that burned-in copy in QuickTime, are you seeing TC there? (in QuickTime?)

MC (scopemc), I think I've got your answer! Stay with me...it's a bit complicated. Here goes...

I, as you, am using Toki to burn code on to a .mov. And the problem is two-fold: (a.) DP8 uses Apple's newer QuickTime X video (as opposed to Apple's QuickTime 7), and (b.) timecode burned in Toki's 1.4.9 will not show up in QuickTime X *IF IT"S BEEN BURNED USING TOKI'S EXPORT/"PUT" TO TRACK (Timecode, Text or Video) FUNCTION*. And, since it will not show up in QuickTime X, it cannot show up in DP8.
*BUT* there's a solution! if you use Toki's EXPORT/BURN function, it *will* show up in QuickTIme X and it *will* show up in DP8! Give it a try!

Hey thanks for the tips everyone,

I was able to see the timecode on one machine and not another in quicktime. So it, seems like you are dead-on with your analysis Williemyers.

I will be able to get down to experiment in a few hours and check back in once I get it all working.

you can download the Mac version here http://www.tokitest.fr/download/TokiTC.dmg and it'll run in a kind of a "demo" mode. then, it's only about $10 to buy.

but I gotta say, if I could give an "o.k., this is THE best utility app for film scoring that I've ever invested ($10) in", that award would definitely go to Toki! It just does a great job of what it's for - - burning visual timecode to QuickTime .movs.

My original problem has returned. It is not a DP or quicktime problem, it is a TOKI problem.

The original video that I have is 23.976, which is not one of TOKI's preset framerates (interesting that QTSync does not have 23.976 either). However, I am able to set a custom Frame Per Second (FPS).

I set the custom rate to 23.976 and TOKI says 23.98 and I continue with the burn, only to find that the inspector in Quicktime shows it at 24 FPS.

I personally would be ok with 24 FPS, but it does not match correctly one put into DP.

If anyone has any thoughts great, but I do realize we are outside of the DP arena now.

And after you've made your Toki-burned .mov, if you run it in QuickTime Pro 7's Inspector, it should show you; "FPS:23.98" and "Playing FPS:24".
If you're seeing these numbers, I think you are good to go!

I'm not sure which version of Toki you are using, but the most current version (1.4.9) *does* have 23.976 (or 23.98 - it's the same thing) as an option. As does DP8.

I received an email for Toki TC about 2 months ago as they released v.1.5. And in that email they said they were out of business and no longer would support the product beyond 1.5. I too have been using it for years. A brilliant tool for sound design and score. And I found that using the Export tab and using the first pre-set "Burn Timecode, feet, frames, frame counters, and text data into the Picture" is the best method in DP8 to resolve time code effectively and stay in sync on the final output.

Also, I distribute copies of the Toki export to all post audio people for making spotting notes, previews, etc. Not sure where you can get v. 1.5 anymore. But it's worth it for sure.
