Mac Pro running Snow Leopard with Wired Aluminum Kbd

Post by marcsoucy »

My new MB110LL/B wired keyboard never works when I boot up my Mac Pro OS 10.6.8. The spec says that is the minimum OS required, but it never works when first booted. Once I plug in my older kbd, the USB seems to "wake up" and my Mac sees the new kbd. Elsewhere, it says that this model (as opposed to the one that ends with an "A") is for Lion, but 10.6.8 is Snow Leopard. I've read elsewhere that some people are using this combination. Is there a workaround to this, so I can use my new keyboard with Snow Leopard?

Weird - but I have seen this before.

This is the keyboard that shipped with my 2010 and my wife's 2011 iMacs, both came running OS 10.6.x. The 10.6.4 restore disk is the correct disk for these.

The problem may be the Mac Pro. It may also be unrelated.

Is bluetooth on? If yes, turn it off and see if you still have a problem.

If no, have you tried the following:

plugging in after booting?
other usb ports?
a powered usb hub?

Is your mouse plugged into a usb port, the keyboard or is it wireless/bluetooth?

If your mouse is wireless, there are other possibilities that affect SL and Lion nut not ML ... but one step at a time.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the feedback. Happy 4th.
In answer to your questions:My Mac does not have Bluetooth. It is the last generation that didn't come with it standard. It's a Dual Quad Core 3.0 Ghz. It is very well equipped, and has served me well for years. anyway:

If I boot up with no keyboard attached, and then plug it in: It doesn't work

If I boot up with the new keyboard plugged in: It doesn't work

If I boot up with the old keyboard plugged in: It works

If I boot up with the old keyboard plugged in, then unplug that and plug in the new keyboard: It DOESN'T work

If I boot up with the old keyboard plugged in, plug the new keyboard into a separate usb port, then unplug the old keyboard: It WORKS!
I can then unplug my old kbd, and everything works well until I reboot the Mac. Then I'm back in the same boat.

Thanks again

Marc
