Loading 7.24 data into 8.02 session

Post by mpeluso »

Couldn't turn anything up while searching this topic. I'm on 8.02 and it works incredibly well. A little weary of updating further because of this. The only serious drawback is that I can't load chunks from 7.24 sessions into 8.02 sessions. Is this ever going to be addressed or possible? Do the 8.03 or 8.04 updates remedy this?

Thanks :boohoo:

You can probably open DP7 projects in DP8 first. Save them and load them as chunks in the project you wish.

Thanks, Radiogal. I've been dancing with some different versions of this process. It would be nice if it were seamless though. Stuff should work, right?

I just now loaded a chunk from a DP 7.24 project into DP 8.04 - no problems.

Make sure you are selecting the sequence to load by highlighting it after you select "Load" and then select the project you want to load from. And make sure you've checked the "load all soundbites" and "effects settings" is checked too.

Once the chunk has finished loading, you then have to select it from the
upper left corner dropdown menu of the Tracks Overview Window (where the
sequence names are), or select from the chunks window (Command+C, then hihglight the chunk name and hit "ok"). If you don't do this, you'll find'yourself still staring at the first sequence in your project, wondering
where the chunk went.

Thanks David. I know how to import a chunk and have done it successfully a number of times. What I'm experiencing are compatibility issues when I pull chunks in from 7.24 into 8.02. It crashes every time since upgrading.

Have you upgraded to DP 8.04? Maybe that's better.

Thanks James. That's something I was wondering about in my original post. I'm a little hesitant to update to 8.04 as 8.02 is rock solid for me (apart from this little issue). Any major differences/improvements?

Well, I think it's more solid than 8.02, but naturally I don't want to promise you that or take responsibility for it if it's not, right? But there's a reason companies release incremental upgrades. By definition a .04 release will have "fixed" some issues in a .03 release. Even still, given the complexities of DAW setups and how widely setups vary from user to user, I hesitate to tell you to do it if you end up having problems later. :)

FWIW, I went straight from 8.02 to 8.04 and experienced no problems at all.

I recommend saving the 8.02 installer (you do save all the installers, right?)
and then upgrading to 8.04.

Thanks for all the help, guys. I'll give 8.04 a go, but definitely hanging onto the 8.02 installer.
