These past couple of days I've had some time to spend with DP8. (I have the latest version recently provided by MOTU.) I haven't really spent much time with it in a while, to be honest. I originally purchased this program for its film-scoring tools. It has the streamers and punches which I enjoy using. Since then, I've grown to like it as a program.
The one significant issue that I'm running against is when I attempt to use the "Movie Menu". Every time I attempt to use it I get that every-spiraling beach ball and DP8 freezes. I'm using standard definition Quicktime movies and they're least compressed using Apple's ProRes 422 codec. It doesn't matter which HDD the QT movie resides on, including my RAID-0 external HDDs which I use for video editing, I still get this problem. I haven't used DP 7 in a while but I don't remember getting the ever-spiraling beach ball.
My computer configuration is noted below. I recently did some significant upgrade to my MacPro. The upgrade includes adding two internal SSDs (where the optical disk-drives used to reside) and a new graphics card (NVIDIA K5000). My operating system now resides on one of the SSDs. This all seems to have significantly improved performance, not hinder it. In addition to these physical upgrades, I've since added VSL's VEPro 5 and their MIR Pro. But neither of these plug-ins are being utilized while I set-up DP8 for film-scoring. As a matter of fact, the only VI that I've set-up for this one video-scoring project is a piano from Garritan's JABB collection of VIs (which use the Aria engine to power it).
I've tried a couple of things as attempts to problem-solve the situation including repairing permission (a few times), putting the video file on different HDDs (both internally and externally), and inserting a blank movie file (which can be done, apparently). I still get that spinning ball. I'm stumped.
It could very well be something associated with my computer and software set-up. But I'm not having any other problems with other programs. For that matter, I'm not having any other problems with DP 8 either. That spinning ball seems to happen only when I attempt to get into the "Movie Menu".
I'm stumped. . .
