Re: Vst Examination
Ok.. finally got through the VST examination.. (almost 4hrs!!)
and now DP8 says it has to shut down due to.. something unknown because it doesn't specify?! C'mon MOTU...
Now, while I'm sure this is a 3rd party plug in/Vst Inst. issue, I'm not prepared to go through the trial and error of uninstalling/reinstalling almost 500 Vst Plug ins to get it to launch.. sorry Motu, looks like I'm sticking with my other apps.. (The usual suspects.)

Re: Vst Examination
Same issue here (Win 7 64 PC), plus it won't even recognize certain plugs that work fine in "other" DAW's. Buggy as hell. I'll give it a try on Mac when I get set up with the new system.
Re: Vst Examination
Doubtful if it took that long to scan everything. DP took 20 minutes to uninstall here, just deleting plugins and dll files one at a time. I think ProTools and Nuendo uninstall in 5-10 seconds, but they are using modular preference and setup files. DP isn't.soundcheckers wrote:.

It also failed to load about 1/3 of my VST plugins. Typically if there are sketchy 3rd party plugins, they will simply cause problems in use, but not load/scan. That points to some missed VST compatibility within DP.
Try moving your VST plugins folders, or renaming them and then opening DP. Or you can open it while holding ctrl and you will get a dialog to open without plugins, "Safe mode" (which I assume is MAS plugins only), and perhaps another option or two. Try opening with no plugins using this method and see what happens (i.e. if it still crashes).

Re: Vst Examination
Just wanna mention. Cracked plugins and apps will course problems and instability in DP.
I don´t say this is the case here, but for some new DP WIN users it might be.
DP hates cracked stuff and so do we on the Motunation.

Re: Vst Examination
I don't have 500 plugs, but with all the UA stuff , Waves, etc, etc it is a lot. Detest pirated software here as well. I own and paid for every plug I use. The UAD plugs were the culprits that caused the hours of examination. Once they were examined, the rest was faster. I just don't understand why MOTU would venture into the "Dark Side" if DP wasn't rock solid in Windows. I'm sure MOTU's plan was to convince some Cubendo/Sonar users to jump ship, and to me, the only way I'd do that is if the initial DP experience was undeniably better, which I can't even comment on because the program won't launch unless I go through the arduous process of checking all my Vst's. Windows users are used to being guinea pigs for beta testing. It is due to all the freedom we have when choosing components.. Just thought my initial DP experience would be... umm.. an experience?
Btw.. Thanks, James for deleting my avatar before I had the chance to replace it. Didn't think in this day and age that it was that offensive...

Re: Vst Examination
You can check 500 plugins in 9 steps. Move half of them to another folder, and start DP. Now you know which half has the bad plug. Now put half of the bad half in the "other folder" and repeat. Now you know which quarter the bad plug is in. Do this eight times and you'll be down to two plugins that might be the cause. Rinse and repeat.soundcheckers wrote:Ok.. finally got through the VST examination.. (almost 4hrs!!)

Re: Vst Examination
1. to answer your question....the underlying code of the windows and Mac version is the same. Once they had to re-code the program from the ground up for 64-bit...since both machines are based on Intel processor languages (and no PPC for MAC)...the code is the same. The only difference is in the graphic layer of code between Windows machines and mac Machines. This is also why VST is all of a sudden supported on the MAC. Because the basic code of DP is the same for both platforms. It only made sense if they were going to do it from scratch to just open it up to their windows users. Their hardware has supported windows for a long time anyway.soundcheckers wrote:I just don't understand why MOTU would venture into the "Dark Side" if DP wasn't rock solid in Windows. 2. Your experience with VST plugins taking that long to examine is not typical and actually rare. The first run of the program after install does take longer than subsequent opens for this examination process...but, as you have already found...this is probably due to the plugins and not necessarily DP. You stated this was due to the UA plugins. Shouldn't you then be directing some questions their way...instead of assuming this is MOTU's problem alone? Just asking. The UAD plugins have been having some growing pains as of late too. Perhaps their windows 64-bit drivers are what is at fault here.
