Needing an iPad full-featured MIDI sequencer

Post by greg328 »

Can anybody recommend a full-featured multitrack MIDI sequencer for iPad that will allow me to load SMFs and trigger my Roland Fantom G7 live? I use this keyboard live, and I've used all the internal song memory, but I need to keep adding songs to out setlist. I accompany live alongside MIDI sequences rolling off the internal sequencer.

I figured the perfect solution would be to find a MIDI sequencer for my iPad, which I already own. Of course I'll need to get some sort of hardware MIDI breakout interface to speak to the Fantom.

The other solution would be just to buy a portable hardware sequencer. I'm looking at the Roland BK-7m, but I don't think it'll trigger external MIDI hardware..??

Ideas??

Thanks!

You might take a look at this. I purchased it with an eye to be able to play backing tracks with a cue/click track for a drummer, while firing off MIDI patch changes to my guitar rack, etc. I'm hoping it will do all that I need, but on paper it appears it will.

Thanks James I'll check that out. i guess the main thing im looking for is the sequencer's ability to trigger an external device.. no need to use any ipad audio software.

Looks like an iRig MIDI and Garageband would get it done....

Well, Garageband is out. It doesn't support MIDI out. Duh...

Anybody know an iPad/iPod Touch MIDI app that supports MIDI out?

Again, Meteor does this. You don't need to use the audio capabilities. :)

Thanks James, I somehow missed your link. Have you used Meteor on your iPad to successfully trigger an external MIDI device?

Nope... I haven't done that yet. I don't have an iPad/iPhone MIDI interface for it yet. I haven't quite decided how I want to go with that. Because I also want audio I was considering the Alesis I/O Dock, but want to make sure past issues with it were straightened out. The company that makes Meteor recommends an inexpensive MIDI interface that's supposed to work fairly well. Keep in mind though that if you want to edit MIDI after the fact, the MIDI editing function is an in-app purchase.

As I said... I haven't tried this yet. It just appears to do all those things you need. I'd go to the App Store and read the reviews for more insight.
