DP8 Win: Go To The Source
First I want to thank MOTU for recognizing the obvious and making a demo available. I suspect that DP sales in general will move upward accordingly.
Anyway, I have the DP8 Win demo and I figured that as I find my way around and read the manual and all that I could trim some of that learning curve down by going directly to the source, you people who already know it well.
So a couple of questions...
1. Detect Beats: Is there a way to turn this off for audio file imports? I just wanted to dump in some stems to mix (to get familar with mixing in it) but I had to wait a long time for it to read all the files (87 track stems).
Is there anything preference or option wise that I should be aware of when doing that?
2. Take a multi-out drum sampler like Addictive Drums, what's the fastest way to approach a multi-out routing setup? I suppose (guessing) once I get it routed the way I want I can use "chunks" later to recall that track configuration (is that the case?, like a template?) but I've not yet figured out the multi-routing.
Anyway ... I like the general UI a lot and it's responsive but (obviously) it's quite different from what I'm accustomed to and requires some learning, so generally speaking I want to tackle the basic stuff (routing, bussing, etc) and all that first, to configure things the way I prefer, before digging into more of the editing details.
Thanks guys.
P.S. I've been doing some testing with a few different workstations as I make a decision on whether to get rid of my digital console or not, running tracking and overdubbing tests at very low latency (16 samples) with my PCIe-424. I plan to do the same with DP once I get more familiar with it. I'll report back when that happens.

1 Yes. Go to
EDIT/ Preferences/ Background Processing and ther you can chose what you want.
Also check: EDIT/ Preferences/ EDIT WINDOWS and check what you want to see.
2 There is a video about how to set up Toontrack EZ drummer in multi channel mode. You can find it on YouTube I believe. Toontrack has it on it´s server for download. (It´s shown in an earlier version of DP).
I´ve done this plenty of times before, but can´t recall the excact procedure.
Addicted drums should probably be used the same way.
Hope someone else can chime in for details.
There are several topics about this here on the Motunation. Do your search.
BTW. MOTU PCIe-424 with DP gives you "Direct hardware playthrough".
Check out: Setup/ Configure Audio System/ Input Monitoring Mode

If I'm not mistaken, you can use the "direct hardware play through" option in DP, if you have MOTU hardware, which you apparently do. You can use that to get near zero latency while tracking.ExpressMix wrote:P.S. I actually use a console myself, but I have a friend who has DP/MOTU hardware and tracks this way all the time- never has a latency problem.
EDIT: I now see that Radiogal beat me to it!

Re: DP8 Win: Go To The Source
Hey there! Thanks for checking out the Windows demo for DP8. Make sure to also download the latest update for the Windows MOTU Audio Driver install (this is mentioned in the DP8 Windows read-me). You'll want the latest driver update for optimum efficiency between DP8 and your MOTU hardware.

Re: DP8 Win: Go To The Source
Thanks guys.
It's a bit of a new hill to climb so I'll try to focus on the more relevant bits (for me) during the 30 days. I'm going to - try - to spend an hour or so with it every other day on average (15 hours or so?) and see how it all shakes out.
I do need to copy the pdf manual to my iPad so I can read it there in-between physical explorations.
Suffice to say...

ExpressMix, looking at your name I can say you´re gonna love the mixing board different Mix Mode options.. You can find it on the left below, next to the snapshot camera in the mixing window. You´re gonna love this!!
