I know others like this, and why, but I can't stand it! UGH! I don't understand why it wasn't made a preference so we could pick which way we wanted it to work.

Anyway, congratulations on the release, MOTU.
Well, I'm one of those who is SOOOO glad this behavior is back. I never
liked the "new" way it worked in 8.01.

Downloaded, installed, up and running in no time. Everything seems to be
solid.

One small issue - it seems that DP 8.02 is always in "Save" mode. Even after
Saving, the "Save" option in the file menu is not greyed out. It never greys
out, actually.

I'm not sure if this is normal or not.

Noticed this too. Come to think of it, though, I don't think I've been having my mondo saves that I usually do! Maybe that was something with 8-8.01! We'll see though... That would really make my month.

In this case they could have, by adding a preference. But Dave explained why they didn't do that, and that's cool. I can accept that. Nothing I could do about it anyway but voice my preference, and cry a little.

Yesterday I worked all day long with DP8.02. Not a single problem! Everything is so smooth. I loved the nice detail on the pitch automation window where the lines are more pronounced and the black and white keys are marked all along the screen.

Also, I'm one of the guys who are really gratefully about getting back that "mixer following track selection" feature. Thank you SO MUCH!

So far this is my favorite DP version ever. I'm loving it. Thank you so much Motu, thank you for listening.

I would love in a future release a nice sample browser for accessing and previewing samples fast. I use audiofinder and its nice, but something inside the program could be great. I know you can audition on the "import" window in soundbites, but it is not friendly at all. I hate to say it (and please don't take my words in a bad way :surrender: ), but the only thing I like about ableton's live, its their sample browser.

Anyway, congratulations on a great update, I'm SO HAPPY!

Viva Motu! :headbang:

So 8.02 is the new 7.24... That's pretty amazing! MOTU should be immensely proud of themselves for all this.

The exciting thing is, on May 1st, we finally got the realization of the thing that we knew was going to be coming for the last 6 years: a perfected, cross-platform, 64bit version of Digital Performer with entirely optimized code. Since about DP5, I've been hearing people talk about this day. Now, MOTUs biggest hurdle since DP3 is behind them. I can't think of any big overhauls like this on the horizon, so my guess is that the near future will be full of little things that they've wanted to do, but have had to put on the back-burner. I imagine it's a pretty exciting time to be working at MOTU right now.

I hope all the staff realizes how much we appreciate what they've done!

Now, let's talk Linux... (sorry, just kidding!)

This apparently is a new behavior and is normal. When in doubt I just save anyway. I'll wager it was just getting too complex tracking all the things that "dirty" a project file. I'd often toggle the record overdub button just so I could do a save and preserve the current window layout, etc. or other conditions that wouldn't "dirty" the file.

I do the same thing, especially with Melodyne.

This gives a good opportunity to remind:
There are SOME programs like Melodyne, where DP WONT recognize changes in a plug in unless you jog a DP control like record over dub.
Otherwise, you could quit DP and lose work.

Yes, I do this all the time. What I do is to record enable/disable a track.

You know, with autosave having it's own folder now, could we be far away from manual incremental saving? Would be nice..

Prime Mover wrote:Thanks Magic Dave!
I, personally, because of my setup, only use the CW for a few windows, and keep others (like the tracklist and mixer) out of the CW. And I keep them in other Spaces. Unfortunately, this kills some of the functionality gained by using the CW. I'd like to be able to use that power whether in the CW or not.
+1+2! Yes, for me, it's been way too easy to have a track selected for an edit, then want to return to the mixer as I left it only to have the one track available and have to remember how I had the mixer set up before. Instant cursing!

Having to deselect the track you've been editing, and/or remember to do it, adds up to unnecessary extra clicks and interruptions in workflow. Certainly popping the mixer out is the workaround, and how I generally work now, but as Prime said that defeats the functionality of the CW. When you get into high track counts, then it becomes a space tug of war between the CW and the mixer. So I've been longing to be able to go back to the CW in a full screen mode.

I might also point out that for those who only want their selected track to show up in the mixer, isn't that what the Channel Strip is for?? You can have it in a sidebar or popped out as well.

All this is a plea to make this 'alternate functionality' an option in the next update. It's one of the only things in DP that bugs me, and that continues to trip me up on a regular basis even though I'm well aware of the behavior.

That said, I echo the others here and say thanks for listening!!

Editor's note: I had lost track of this thread so sorry for getting back to this issue, just wanted to vote!! At any rate congrats to MOTU for a solid release. I think it's time to undertake the major project of partitioning my main HD, then upgrading to ML and DP8- on the big partition!
