Greetings. First post here.
I have two 828mkII units one V1.00 (the slave unit) and the other V1.01 (Host/master unit) and recently decided to use a BLA MicroClock mk2 for master clocking.
I have researched this in depth and have gotten an e-mail from BLA and spoke with them over the phone. I have set up my rig the way I was told by BLA (although I was told two different things from them but only one seems to be close) and have experimented with a dozen or so different settings, but not getting a clean pop/click-free signal.
Here is how I have this all set up for now which is causing the least amount of clocking glitches:
Everything is running at 44.1 for now
Each 828 is connect to one of each of the BLA's BNC outs (not using a T)
The 828 units are connected both ways via ADAT optical
The 828 units are connected to each other via FW
The Host 828 is connected to my PC via FW
In MOTU Audio console:
Sample Rate 44100
Samples per buffer: 128
Master Clock Source: 828mkII #2: Word Clock In (this is my slave unit)
828mkII #2 Clock: 828mkII #2: Word Clock In (this is my host unit)
I am still having intermittent clocking error pops/clicks - about one every few minutes. I was also told by BLA to clock my slave unit to the master only via ADAT, but that seemed cause more frequent pops/clicks than the configuration above (which was also suggested by BLA). Question: Anyone else here in a similar situation that can please describe their setup in detail?
BLA also stated that I would be able to use spdif from digital units without any issues and I would like to continue to use the spdif in from my Virus TI, but once I connect via spdif to either 828 unit I get a cyclic clocking glitch. Question: am I going to lose use of the spdif inputs?
Anyone's help here is greatly appreciated.
