question about linking sequences, chunks and songs

Post by monsieurescargot »

It is the first time i need to do this, i have made a lot of nice mixing/edits in an edit of a song, but i want to use the intro of my original sequence.
I have tried to make 2 chunks and link them together. it doesnt play back seemlessly which is not a surprise considering the amount of data involved.
I've tried to make a song with those 2 chunks one after the other, but the CPU is going to the roof.
ideally, i would prefer having them both in one new separate sequence, with everything merged (mixers, automations) of copied and pasted bits of sequences.
When i select the intro and want to use copy selection to new sequence, it is greyed out.

what is the best way to achieve this for you?

thanks

If you are using the Song function for this then it will not work as chunks are not linked seamlessly. You would have to merge them into one sequence in the Song window. This is the bit of DP I find a bit clunky. However I may have misunderstood you.

so do you select 2 chunks in song window and apply merge function?
do you then have the 2 sequences in the normal sequence window?

i think you understood me, it is basically trying to have a new project made of 2 or more bits of other projects, with all the tracks, edits, mixing all there.

thanks

You have to drag the chunks into the Song window (in adjoining slots) and select them - make sure to go to the mini menu and copy conductor tracks - and then merge chunks. You will then get a new chunk appear called Seq 1 which should be your merged chunks. You will still need to select conductor tracks rather than the default tempo slider.

As I say I find this very clunky having been used to subsequences in Vision which was simple and elegant - others swear by the Song window for queue-ing songs for live performance. It depends whether you work with one long chunk for a song - but if like me you prefer to work in smaller sequences and put them together then the Song window is what you have to use. I just think it could be better but its always been this way and doesn't look as if it will change. It works however if not very elegant.
