Bounce to disk and 3rd party plug ins
Ok. So here's what I've come across.
A 3rd party plugin (say Slate VTM, or UA 1176 for example) inserted on an Aux track that's part of a bounce to disk operation- the resulting bounce is slightly delayed, causing flamming.
Case in point- 2 snare tracks (top and bottom) routed to a mono aux track. On that aux track, a Slate VTM inserted to give me a pre mixed and pre processed snare track. I highlight all three (Sn top, bottom and Aux) and bounce to disk. When I play the result back, I get flamming with the HH track. Looking at the waveforms of the snare before and after confirm the bounced track is indeed delayed. No other plugins are in use.
If I do a real time record instead of bounce to disk, all is well. Also, monitoring the chain before actually doing the bounce sounds fine as well. Again, this is when using an aux track in the bounce, (3rd party plugin inserted directly on a audio track seems to bounce fine.)
It's definitely in the bounce to disk function, and involves 3rd party plugs
MAS plugins do fine.
Is anyone else aware of this, or am I just late to the party??
thanks,
Carlos

Set the plugs to run in real time instead of pre gen mode. Maybe that's it.

thanks for the advice, and I did try that earlier, but since the plug in is on an aux track in this case, the option to run in real time doesn't do anything.
I can check mark it in the plug in interface mini window for Slate VTM (UAD plugs greyed out, always real time), but according to DP manual, pre rendering plugins only work on those inserted on audio track, not aux tracks, and not UAD plugins at all.
Forgot to mention also, I tried both AU and VST of same plug in, same result.
Any other ideas, anyone??
thanks,
Carlos

Hey Carlos, Is it always offset by the same amount of time?
Sounds to me like the ADC is not working with the Auxes. Try bouncing it with the plugs removed from the aux (and the channels feeding it).
BTW, in another thread somewhere, MLC says that some of the timing errors on bounces were fixed with OS 10.8.3 -
I think it's here (before the usual antics/digression):

I haven't checked to see if the offset is consistent, although I don't think it is. That's just based on a quick visual of some waveforms. Slate VTM may have shifted a bit more than UA 1176, I believe. And yes, removing the plugins and bouncing to disk works fine. No shifting of the resulting bounce.
I am running 10.8.3 as well.
Hmmm.…
