MOTU 8pre optical input recording problems
Hi all.
I'm trying to use my MOTU 8pre as master to recieve digital signal converted by my apogee minime. But I do not know how. Or I'm doing something wrong or something is missing for me to do.
In the setup of 8pre audio panel (tab "8pre") in input and output optical ADAT I've selected ADAT.
In the "General" tab, in clock source I've selected ADAT optical.
I Plug an instrument in the minime with a coaxial cable from its SPDIF output. That cable enters in a coaxial-optical converter like this
http://www.satelite-online.com/catalog/ ... 940ff436d4
Optical cable from the converter to the optical in 1-4 of the 8pre.
The 8pre goes to PC via firewire, with all dirvers and software properly installed.
The minime is USB, but not connected to the computer
In the PC are installed both drivers and software of minime and 8pre
BUT, in the sequencer, when I rout the input to MOTU ADAT 1-2, sequencer (cakewalk sonar) gets nothing.
In the leds front panel of the 8pre I have lights in:
interface
clock 44.1 (intermittent flashing)
Optical in 1x
Any idea of what is going wrong?
Thanks and regards.

Re: MOTU 8pre optical input recording problems
Hi there
First of all the Mini-Me has to be the clock master - so the 8pre must slave to it.
Also the converter is not converting spdif to ADAT optical - it is spdif optical, a different format - I don't know if the 8pre can be configured to receive spdif?
I suspect you would be better to interface the Mini-Me via USB
Cheers
Stephen

Re: MOTU 8pre optical input recording problems
Emphasis on SPDIF and ADAT are not the same. You're trying to get square pegs into round holes.
If you're on a Mac, you can record the Mini-me directly into the Mac's optical input. Every Mac 1/8" jack doubles as an optical SPDIF IO.

Re: MOTU 8pre optical input recording problems
Hi all.
Many thanks for your answers.
I'm afraid that I forgot to say the most important thing:
I'm not MAC. I'm PC. And my AD/DA conversion equipment is two apogee mini-me both conected via double AES/EBU to a mini-dac firewire. The problem is that apogee already say NO to PC, and I can only hold my system under Windows XP sp2 only. Not even XP sp3 works to my apogees. But I want/need to update. I just want to leave XP and go to Windows7 64bits without leave the apogees. So I'm looking for a way to keep my AD/DA apogee conversion and take its digital signal into PC through any other interface. I also own the MOTU 8pre, but this one has no spdif inputs. Only toslink optical ADAT I/O.
But I'm realizing that maybe I'm pretending something unattainable. I guess that finally I will have to give up and sell my apogees and go to RME, or if I want to keep apogees I will have to go to MAC. But this will involve an expense that I cannot face now, and also a drastic change that I'm too lazy for.
Any idea to resolve the problem with apogee and PC?
Thank you all.

Buy an interface with SPDIF IO, what else?

Yes, of course.
I would like a PCI one, just to avoid my festival cable growth in my home studio. I guess that once signal is digital I have not to expend lot of money in a superb quality card. So any suggestion please?
