line-level signal into a standalone 8pre

Post by NettoMax »

hi guys,
Can i connect line-level instruments to 8pre combo inputs, that too in standalone mode? is there any control to switch the 8pre between recieving mic-level signal and line-level or just direct plug and play ?

thanks in advance

Line level signals should be fine. Line signals have the same impedance as mic signals, just a lot more gain. What isn't a good idea are "Instrument level" signals. These have similar gain to line level, but aren't impedance matched. For these, you should use a DI box or MOTUs own "Z-Box". They might sound "okay" but on close inspection, will suffer from some distortion and frequency loss.
