Hi all, I'm considering buying Mach Five 3, but am wondering:
- how successful is .exs sample importing/playing?
Do 'round-robin' samples and keyswitches, as found in the Kirk Hunter libraries, translate properly?
- anything to beware of as far as using other libraries in the Mark Five 3?
Thanks all!

I have both exs and Kontakt versions of some of the KH stuff. New stuff is Kontakt only.
Take a look at my post here: http://www.motunation.com/forum/viewtop ... =5&t=51512
I'll make a test run in a couple of days but...KH instruments consist of a gazilion samples in a boat-load of sub folders.
It would be a matter of substantial manuel labor (repetitive stress syndrome-inducing) mouse clicks...) to copy all samples to a single folder. Then there's the issue of MF3's ability to translate the TVEC scripting (for either Kontakt or the EXS 24) into it's Rules for key switching.
Give me a couple of days to get to this...
Regardless, MF3 is an incredibly powerful and deep sample instrument/synthesizer worthy of having in it's own right.
It would be very satisfying to see 3rd party developers put out MF3 libraries....

+1 on M5-3 in general as one of the most powerful tools you can have. It's really a sample playback VI as an afterthought for me. For design, speed & pitch alteration, etc. the IRCAM stuff alone is more than worth the cost. I love being able to "freeze" any slice of any sound or recording and use it as a patch.

Regarding importing Kirk Hunter: Forget about it.

The solo 1st violin (CSll) has 7325 samples, all in sub folders.
Saving instrument and samples to another folder removed sub folders in the new location. Opening the instrument in K5, then saving resulted in a working nki instrument file.
Importing the nki instrument into MF3 failed.
KH instruments are very complex creations scripted of Kontakt.
On the other hand, importing a Roland sample CD was a piece of cake.

Hi 'wvandyck'..... thanks for your observations, and I look forward to more of your tests and findings.
I'll probably get Mach Five 3 for sure, and be using it in Logic 8, then 9 (or 10) later. I know it'll be amazing for what it offers, and I can always use Logics' EXS sampler for some of my samples that might not translate well from .exs.
But, if I go back to DP at some point (switched to Logic about 7 years ago, but still have fondness for DP!), or when I use ProTools with Mach Five 3, I'd love to have my Kirk Hunter sounds with me!
Keep at it! I'll be working on it too in a month or so! Thanks for your work.
