MOTU driver support?

Post by joelg »

Hi,

I'm looking around at a new interface and I'm wondering everyones opinion on MOTU's driver support? I want an interface with USB/Firewire and ADAT In/Out, and the 896mk3 looks nice for the price.

Thanks!

Long term support - probably the best. I believe the current version of the drivers still supports the original 828. My 828mkII is 8+ years supported. Regular updates and features have been added, i.e. OSC support for CueMix FX, Spectral Analysis, Tuner, etc. - of course YMMV. I'm primarily a Mac user, but haven't had any issues when on a PC. Some have reported firewire chipset issues with PCs, but that effects all brands.

Thanks for the reply! I know the firewire chipset issues all too well, and have TI based adapters already for my M-Audio gear.

Time to start saving up I guess. I like the option of Firewre and USB in the 896mk3, never hurts to have options.

windows driver support is actually decent...you may see a lot of complaints online, but fyi many of these are people who don't what they are doing totally misdiagnosing other PC problems.

Yes, for some reason people don't read through FAQ's and big bold stickies at the top of forums. And it seems all to easy to blame the driver for everything.
