896mk3 Master & Phones Out Problem

Post by Jayson Wonder »

Hello again,

I am having a weird problem or at least a situation which I cannot seem to figure out.

I have my unit working fine. I have my main outs on the back hook up to my studio monitors and I have my headphones hooked up to the front phones output. I have all of my keyboard and drum machine hooked up and playing through on both. I am using Cubase to record and I have all of my instruments recorded and ready to lay some voclals. When I record from my mic I want to kill the monitors / mainouts which are going to the monitors but keep my headphones on.

Aside from turning of the power to my monitors, how else could I mute / kill main outs and leave headphones out for monitoring while recording?

I know that may seem stupid or basic but I have tried many things in CueMix FX with no luck. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Since Cuemix doesn't allow for routing of software inputs, in a typical setup you would have an output bus in Cubase feeding the main outs and one feeding the phones. Couldn't just mute the main outs when you go to record? Also, if I remember correctly I believe pressing the volume button on the front panel of the 896mk3 mutes the channel (either main outs or phones).

I'm going to have to try this. I have the same problem.
I just keep my monitors off when I am recording and rehearsing, but I would like to be able to go back and forth from headphones to monitors without having to turn them on and off and the drastic volume reduction. I'm afraid I am going to forget to turn the volume down and blow a pair of ADAM monitors. :mumble:

Resolved!

You have to go into the mixer tab in CueMix FX and you can setuo your busses there. Make a bus for your Main-Outs and a bus for your phones and then you will have control over each output. Also you can then use the monitor level on the CueMix FX software to control monitor outs level rather then turning off the speakers. This was a major pain in the ass for me, it is solved now though.
