MIDI edit with sound on

Post by Musicmind »

Hi,
I would like to hear the sound from my VI when I select the MIDI events with the rubber band, isn't that possible in DP8?
Do I have to click on it?

Select it then hit the opt and space bar. Whatever is selected will play.

Yes I know that. But I was looking for the function that I know from Logic and Cubase, where you can hear the sound from the MIDI event the moment you select it.

DP works that way, too, but you have to be sure it's turned on. Check the manual for Audible Mode. Also, if I remember correctly, this kind of audio (play when you click) defaults to the topmost output in the Bundles window. If you don't like the track it's playing on, move the Main Out track up to the top of the outputs.

DP is very customizable, but the flip side of that means that if you don't know what you're doing, it's easy to tell DP to do something that you don't want it to. It's always listening to you when you tap a key or click somewhere.

I suggest studying the Commands Window. I print mine out and read through it from time to time. That's where you will find what MOTU has added recently, which you might have no other way of knowing than to see it in the Commands Window. You will get so many ideas for how to work just by reviewing the Commands Window, pretty soon you'll be coming here and posting your own discoveries.

When you have the VI window open, go up the mini-menu in the upper right, and make sure the "Render this instance in realtime" (or words to that effect) option is checked.

Then make sure the audible button is also activated (as mentioned), now if you click on a single note and even drag it you'll hear the note. It won't play the group unless you do as MLC suggests and press option-space.

Hi
the rubberband technic is clicking with the left mouse button ( keeping it down ) and then select the MIDI events by creating a "square" around it.

Then I don'T believe what you're trying to achieve is possible to do in DP this way.
The 2 only ways I know to audition without actually activating the transport are:

Selecting the data and then opt-spacebar (play selection) like MLC said.

Clicking and holding a certain data. After a few ms, you will hear it.

My understanding is that the MIDI track has to be the one in Record. Then the note sounds when touched.

No,that's not the case as far as I can tell. That shouldn't make a bit of difference.
