Is it the beginning of the end of MacPro's?

Post by kgdrum »

Just saw MacPros are being discontinued in Europe! Scary stuff, is the end near for all of us?

Hope not, but it's not the end of the world if it is, just the end of an era.

Missing fan guards and protection on powered ports... BFD (and I don't mean the VI!) All will be addressed with the 2013 MP, assuming Apple builds one, of course. :D

If you build it, they will come.

Uhhhh... that's usually a very good sign but not always. Often it means the new version is just around the corner.

All of my Apple contacts are very careful to not disclose what is happening with the MP. It's the way that they are "not telling" me, ya know?

Let's see... MacWorld is when? Oh yea, it opens today. Even though Apple no longer shows up, who knows what can happen?

I heard this last week on MacRumors but it was explained as being related to European Union rules and new regulations that just kicked in recently; much tougher than the less regulated North American market. They'll surely address this in their next hardware update.

The last 'official' mention of a Mac Pro was from Tim Cook last year who said they are "planning something great for later this (2013) year".

I'm ready to upgrade, although my 2008 Mac Pro is still pretty darn great, the guy at the Apple Store told me that from today (Feb 1) it is over 5 years old and thus officially 'vintage'!

Here's an zdnet article with a bit more info regarding the cessation of shipping new MacPros to Europe:

Well this looks interesting, apparently the 10.83 beta has driver support for a new line of AMD-Radeon video cards that would go in the new generation of MacPros! ;-)
