DP 8.01 and Scrolling Wiper

Post by Michael Canavan »

Not sure if this is a common problem with 8.01 or not but the Scrolling Wiper disappears in the Tracks Overview window when switching between chunks. Regardless of preference settings.

Motu Tech Link says it will be fixed in the next maintenance update, thought people would like to know.

Shooshie and I went back and forth on this. I've found that in consolidated windows if you switch to a different tab and back, the wiper returns. It seem be be more reliable to get it back that way in the lower frame but the windows don't scroll with the music at all. Shoosh had a different fix but it has stopped working on my system.

You can also double click anywhere in the timeline, that pops the wiper into view at the position you click in. Thanks for pointing out that there are solutions.

No problem, you're welcome. Don't forget to try DP in full screen mode of you're using ML.

...unless you are using multiple monitors for DP to begin with...then 2nd and 3rd monitors disappear to the OSX grey linen background and you can only see the main consolidated window....not so good. :?

Ah, no - that is not happening here. The second monitor is more than happy to put other windows on the that second or third screen. Here's the trick. Pop the window in question into the consolidated window. Then pop it out with ctl-1 and drag it on over. Should be just fine.

Yeah I like full screen mode a lot, mainly because I'm going with a single 28" monitor mounted to the ceiling solution. Between it and multiple desktops and things are pretty smooth!

When using virtual monitors, you can set each "Space" to a different background. Does it also allow that for multiple [real] monitors? Brian's mention of the "gray linen background" made me wonder if that is doable. I like that, because with virtual monitors I'm always able to tell which one I'm in. Providing I'm not in full-screen mode, of course.

By the way, the way I fix the missing wiper is to position the cursor in the top-left part of the Tracks Overview Window, as if I'm grabbing the wiper. You'll see the cursor change to the wiper cursor when you're in the right place. Then click and drag to the right side of the window (the counter's numbers will spin as you go) and drag back to where you started. By the time you get back, you'll be holding the real wiper, now visible.

This happens every time I switch chunks, btw. I told MOTU about it the day they released 8.01, and others have told them since, so hopefully they've already got that fixed in the working update file.

Yeah they said they would fix it in the next update!
Funny, we all came up with different ways to get the wiper back.

I didn't know DP8 had a full screen mode - how do you do that?

LIttle icon at the top right of the screen. To return to regular windows move the mouse to the same corner and call up the icon. Point. Click.

DP doesn't launch in to full screen.

The second monitor will appear grey when you go int that mode but you can still drag windows on and off it. Popping windows in and out of the consolidated window via the ctl-1 key command is a good way to find a window set that works for the two monitor setup. I like to keep my full mixer on the second monitor and only open it there. I keep a movie in the CW but when it pops out, it goes to the second monitor which is over the piano - so that works out well.

I've tried desktop switching with DP, but the time lag is too slow for me when switching
between desktops. It literally gives me a headache after a while.

For my eyes, two real monitors side by side is still the way to go
until the desktop switching gets faster.

Two monitors with consolidated windows is amazing. No switch lag to worry about and all things in "dependable" locations. Like music, it's all about how it sits on the page.
