Well there's some nice new plugin options coming from UA in February.
They're releasing a new revised Teletronix LA-2A,API 500 series EQ's & Softube Amp Room bundle, I suppose to fill the Nigel void.
If they revised the LA-2A as well as they updated the 1176 collection it will be great & the API EQ's should be interesting.
2012 Mac Pro 3.46GHz 12 core 96 gig,Mojave, DP11.01,Logic 10.51, RME UCX,Great River ME-1NV,a few microphones,UAD2, Komplete 12U,U-he,Omni & way too many VI's,Synths & FX galore!, Mimic Pro w/ SD3,Focal Twin 6 monitors, Shunyata...........
Yippee. Color me non-plussed as an owner of a MacPro that can't boot into the 64-bit kernel. I now sort of don't pay much attention to UAD announcements. Maybe when I get a new Mac I can be more enthused.
The beta of the 64bit version won't work on our Macs. Is there any chance the final version will be compatible with older machines I wonder? …a long shot I know, but if someone at NAMM could ask UA about this it'd be nice. Thx.

I'll confirm tomorrow but I think the latest UAD software works in either
32-bit or 64-bit - you just have to choose whether to install the 32-bit
or the 64-bit plugs.
Usually, new plug-ins require updating to the latest version of UAD software.
These new plug-ins look nice, people have been requesting an updated LA2A and an API module for some time.
Meanwhile, searching the UAD forum, I came across this interesting info -
someone from UAD replied to a question about UAD and older Macs that can't
boot into 64-bit kernel:
"Yes, support for 32-bit Kernel mode is slated to be developed in a future release."
"Yes, support for 32-bit Kernel mode is slated to be developed in a future release."
Wow! Well, that would be great news!

Thanks David. That'd be great if you could confirm!
The last I heard the 64bit compatible versions would only run on machines that could boot into a 64bit kernel - leaving users with 2,1 Macs and earlier, such as James and myself, out in the cold. If what that post says is true we'll be good to go!
Sorry to hear this James,I can understand your ambivalence,I'd be p.o.'d as well.
It's a shame that the UAD cards require the Mac to run in the 64bit kernel,I'm surprised some clever user hasn't figured out how to get the older MacPros to boot in the 64bit kernel.
From what I understand & it's not much, re:the developmental/technical realm of computers,a hack similar to what Hackintosh users employ would probably make these Macs 64bit kernel bootable.
I know this is legally incorrect and goes against the Apple EULA to use or advocate but I'm sure a clever hack would make these Macs 64bit kernel bootable.
This is not a hardware limitation of the 2006 & 2007 Macs it's Apples imposed efi based limitation.
I know the idea of doing this sort of thing goes against basic principals most of us agree on but I do think Apple messed up on this a bit.
If I remember correctly part of the marketing Apple employed when they released these Macs was that they were the 1st 64bit Macs, most people back then didn't know or understand what a 64bit kernel was, many users still don't.
It's a shame Apple chose to limit these machines to the 32bit kernel,it might be other parts of these Macs like the video cards would have to be replaced as well,I'm really not sure.
But I think Apple practiced some bad marketing and were not totally honest with consumers about this for a couple of years.
I'm surprised no one has tried to start a class action lawsuit regarding this.
Obviously I'm not a lawyer but I think Apple was less then genuine regarding the 64bit transition.
If you deem my post in appropriate,I apologize but I think Apples conduct was a bit smarmy.

I'd wait to see if what David posted is true before I go hacking my Mac. I just emailed UA to confirm that they will be developing 32bit kernel compatible versions. I'll let you know if they do. Fingers crossed.

This would be a great update for you guys I hope they get this done soon for all of the earlier MacPro users!

I'm in the same situation. My Mac Pro 1,1 is now a purely recording and mixing computer in my studio. And will remain 32bit to work with UAD1. But as all the new plugs only work on UAD2 I don't really follow it either.
Although I lust for an Apollo, it's pretty low on my priority list.

Yes James you can run your Mac Pro as a Hackintosh (possibly with a video card upgrade) to get to 10.8
I was going to do that but I ended up picking up a Mac Pro 3,1 - quad (actually thinking it was an 8-core) for cheap (about $700). I was thrilled to find out that all Mac Pro 3,1 are 8 - core capable. They just don't have a second CPU installed. For $150 or so you can make a make a 3,1 quad into a 8 core. Throw in another CPU and put in an additional head sink. Was pretty easy actually.

hi ConleyCD
I wish I was confident enough to do this sort of upgrade,I have 2 left hands! lol
did it improve the performance of the Mac substantially ?
The most complicated work I've done with mine was installing a drive in the empty optical slot and it stressed me out, like you wouldn't believe!
I'd imagine trying to install another CPU,heat sink and the paste etc....would have me in messing up my diaper!!!

Ok, I spoke with one of the UA guys at the UAD booth yesterday. I won't
quote him or say who he was, but from our conversation I gathered that
the news for owners of older MacPros that won't boot into 64-bit kernel is
not good. As in, forget about it, UA isn't really going to address those
people. It's pretty much "time for movin' on". It's going to be a newer
macPro and 10.7 or 10.8, folks.
So..hmmm. I guess if you're dying to have the newest UAD plugs and software,
you're gonna have to get a Mac that will boot into 64-bit kernel.

Yeah, I figured that would be their position. I guess I'll be in the 32-bit ghetto with the rest of the UAD owners who can't get a new Mac for a while.

Well, that's the last time I send YOU to get good news. Oh well, thanks for taking the time to ask David. I thought the info above, that UADs would one day run on older Macs, sounded optimistic.
I just got this from UA. Based on this, support for 32bit kernel doesn't appear to be imminent, but it looks like it will happen. It's hard to know if David's NAMM source or this one is more reliable, but personally I'm going with what's below :
Hi Dan,
While I do not have specific information on future software releases we are anticipating support for 32 bit Kernel mode.
