828MK3 and Low Audio Signal - Cable or 828Mk3 Problem?

Hi All,
I recently purchased the 828MK3, upgrading from a legacy (original) 828. Plugging my Juno Stage 76 keyboard and JV 1010 Roland Sound Module into the inputs of 828mk3 (7-8 and 5-6 respectively) I could only get the most imperceptible of signals, even with the trim in Cue MIx turned all the way up. It's only by sheer accident, after plugging and unplugging the audio cables running into the back (inputs) of the 828Mk3 that I found that when the cables were pushed in only about 1/3 of the way, did I receive the proper signal. These, however, are the exact same cables I used only weeks previous with my original 828 and nothing else had changed. Now, the cables are precariously plugged in only partially. Surely, that can't be the solution. I know very little about balanced and unbalanced cables, but is this 1) an 828MK3 weird quirk? or 2) do I have a defective 828Mk3 or 3) are the cables I've always used now incompatible and if so, what kind of cables to I need to replace them with? Try using unbalanced cables.

Thanks, I'll give it a try. Of course, I'm regretting changing a set up that for the last 10 years worked perfectly. Better gear, but... thanks again.
