Using USB on mk3H interfaces, bottleneck ?

Has anyone tried connecting the mk3H interfaces to the mac and using another USB plug on the mac for recording onto an USB 2 disk ?
Track counts ? Reliability ?

I suspect the vast majority of Mac users are using their 828s via FireWire...

I'm quite interested in this as well as I've moved to a MacBook Pro w/ retina so no FW port. And although my 828mk3 FW seems to be working fine via the TB to FW adapter, my next interface will probably be USB. Unless thunderbolt interfaces start appearing and the prices drop.

Or what about usb 3 interfaces? Is it just deemed unnecessary?

I tried it while my firewire card was on the blink. Buggy as hell. Constant hangs a glitches. Stay away from usb drives and interfaces at all costs.
