Clicks and pops on fades.. PLZ make them stop!!! (SOLVED?)

Post by Radiogal »

I´m sorry I´m having to complain but it´s getting on my nerves..
I very, very often get clicks and pops on audio file fades.. PLZ make them stop!!! I hate it!!

This makes me always worry when bouncing or mixing OTB..ITB.. playback.. Always need to relisten to merged files etc.. Gosh!!
Redrawing them will solve it.. but the pops and click can come back..
It´s been like this for ages, also on the old G5, so it has nothing to do with my system. I´m sure I´m not the only one with this issue!!

What about doing a quick merge prior to bounce RG? (But of course this is only a workaround til they FIX IT !!!!)

Oops, you said merged??? They glitch when merged??? oh boy.

Not seeing (hearing) this at all. Maybe it's one of your plugs misbehaving?

No plugins what.so.ever.... editing like a mad gal.. yep.
This time it´s a clean project.

But hey, I donnow. I work with audio files. That might be the difference as most of you working in VIs and not that many audio files AFAIK. Maybe that´s why you guys never heard it. Donnow. :?
But this is and has been very anoying.
My system is powerful and clean.. so it´s not that. And this is defenitely not a new phenomena in DP8. Has been there in DP7 too.

So I can´t believe it´s only me having this issue.
Anyone?

NOTE: Redrawing them will solve it.. but the pops and click can come back at the same fade that was okay before.

Dumb question... but what versions of Quicktime are on that rig RG?

I am trying to remember something someone said somewhere sometime ago...

I do audio and also BTD results in audio. I'll do a bunch of fades today to check it out and see if I can hear anything.

Does this happen in fade in/outs or only in crossfades?

RG, my work is almost 100% audio and I've never had a problem with fades. How are you doing your fades? (Most of the time I just automate the faders.) Are you using faders or using the fade handles at the ends of soundbites?

Fades made with the fade handles at the beginning or end on the soundbites.
Often the click occurs at the point where the fade in starts or fade in ends.
It´s NOT a waveform issue.
I always clean up every track by cutting away the empty spaces and use fade ins and outs for the soundbites. Just common stuff.

Happens also with crossfades. I´m very aware of zero crossings when doing X fades.
Thing is, the fades sound great at first. Then some minutes later when listening back after some time, the clicks and pops appear.
Not always, but very often.

This time while editing a 30 + audio track project.

I also do mostly 100% audio tracks. I draw or apply fades or x-fades to every head and tail and junction of every soundbite. No clicks or pops happening here. My usual track count is around 40 to 50, once in awhile 60. I'm only telling you this so you'll know this problem is not showing up in every install.

Very odd. Similar here, I use all audio (almost always print VI's immediately as if they were live players) and make 90% of my fades from the handles. Never have clicks or pops. I'm always in either 24/44 or 24/48

Do they print when merging/bouncing/recording, or do they only appear in monitoring? If they only appear in monitoring this could perhaps be an issue between DP and an audio driver or so? Very odd, and I'm sure very frustrating.

Sounds like it's just RG who has the problem. Could it be a resolution problem? Check your PPQ resolution and buffer settings.

Yes the pops/clicks do print.
Am I really the only one experiencing this issue?

I mean.. this is not a new phenomena for me as it happened on my earlier Mac too and in DP 7..
