Motu828mk3 can not play flash video / javascript

Post by motu_user_77 »

I have Motu828mk3 firewire with XP64 professional with the latest driver. The problem is not new but now it has become unbearable to use it.

Any action caused by javascript on a website causes the motu to produce a high-pitched peep-sound that halts all other sound programs that are currently running. It also halts the whole system for several seconds.

Flash video (vimeo.com etc) stutters unacceptably and it halts all other audio that is playing. It replacing the signal with a constant high-pitched frequency tone. My ears hurt from it. It can not play longer than 2 seconds. Youtube video works as long as i don't play full-screen. That sometimes works, sometimes not.

The flashplayer driver or the motu driver update is the only thing i can think of, but this problem is not new. It only got worse.

Flash doesn't have a driver, my friend.

I experience a very similar issue and my system is in outstanding shape with regards to its setup/drivers.

When I watch YouTube at 480p, which I have been able to do for years with no issues on this system, it is flaky....but when I put it to full screen, it freezes the whole system and I too get that high pitched squeal.

I have been trying on here to get MOTU to look at it.

If I feel up to it, I will completely disable the MOTU from the system and test if the same thing happens with my onboard Realtek AC '97.

I shall give results here if I do.

Well I just did my little test. I powered off the MOTU then rebooted.

My system had the same exact problem with the onboard Realtek, so I don't think MOTU is to blame for this.

Another interesting thing I noticed is that 480p works perfectly fine on the videos that use HTML5 instead of Adobe Flash.

Believe it or not, I just got a 0x9C MCE stop error when testing the Flash above. That usually means a bad CPU but that's complete nonsense. I do a million other things all perfectly on this machine, including many of the latest games. Never any issues. It's only Flash stuff causing problems. See for yourself:

Thank you for this reply torrentg. You seem to have the exact same problem as I have.

I also notice that the sampling frequency changes when opening a video or when a program like a screensaver takes action. Then it is like an 48 khz sound is played at 44 khz, but then while the motu is set on 44khz. Resetting the frequency in the motu console fixes this.

What i will try to do is downgrade to a lower version of adobe flashplayer plugin. I will update here about the results.

Well, here's the deal...

You should inspect your motherboard for capacitors that are leaking with brown crud on top or bottom (electrolyte) or ones that are just not perfectly 100% flat on the top.

If you have anything like that, it is likely the cause.

I pulled the motherboard out here and replaced 3 caps. About a week ago, my system was freezing every hour or less or so. After I replaced these 3 caps, it is 100% perfect expect for Flash! I mean, I play games for hours on end!

There is another definite bad cap or two that I did not replace (yet) - so I have a strong feeling that this could be my issue, despite the system having perfect uptime when Flash is not in use.

So...

You're welcome! And do you have any blown capacitors on the motherboard?

I uninstalled flashplayer , and downgraded to version 9, 10.1 , 10.3 with no change: still the horrible frequency peep-tone whenever some flashplayer action is present on the screen.

I uninstalled my video driver and tried to downgrade it but then i lost my network (nvidia drivers uninstall also uninstall windows drivers and this is not easily fixed). No change at all. The horrible frequency is still present.

I can not fix my windows xp64 setup anymore, so i bought windows 7 and a new harddisk and i am now on a new OS with the latest drivers for motu 828mk3, flashplayer, and my videocard. Now I Can Not Play Music Anymore without every 10 seconds a sharp 6000Hz beeping tone interrupting all sound in an unacceptable manner.

I'm furious and desperate at this point. Playing a html5 video results in only stutter and beep tones that might blow up both my ears, my motu and my mackie monitors. What to do, except throwing the thing out of the window ?

Re: Motu828mk3 useless on windows 7

Post by motu_user_77 »

Sorry for the late reply as my mixer (soundcraft) broke down and was in repair.

I replaced the Windows XP64 setup with windows7 enterprise edition

The same problem occurs; and dissapears after i uninstalled the NVIDIA geforce 8400GS driver. Now -without an active NVIDIA driver- the sound works just perfect. I will update when i have found a driver version that works on this system.
