DP8 Themes

Post by jamwerks »

I'm new to DP and enjoying it so far. We all know that it's just a detail, but it's nice to have the different "themes" (gui's). For our eyes, it's healthy to switch colors a couple of times a day also.

I'd like to see more themes that have real textures: wood, metal, marble, etc.

Check these out. Some are DP8 ready, most are not (yet).
My favorite is shown in my signature and should be ready and available on the AMPGUI page soon. The Mellow Theme is really great too!!!

Actually, AmpGUI is dragging his feet a little. I wonder if it's time to donate again. Maybe this time we promise to donate AFTER he gets about 3 or 4 of those themes updated.

I think the situation is that Andy has more lucrative work. I'm pretty sure that given the time involved he's not making all that much money on themes.

While the these new themes are nice as a change of what we have, personally I was hoping for (other than different color schemes), the use of real textures (wood, metal, leather, etc.) in many places as possible. That shouldn't be that difficult, but may be possible only on Motu's level.

I saw a screenshot of a gui of a newer daw (on GS) incorporating theses textures, that looked heads and shoulders better than anything I've seen elsewhere. Unfortunately I can't track down that photo. :banghead:

In the end it's just a detail, but when you're staring at something 15 hours a day, there's a pleasure factor, and maybe even "inspirational" one.....

Quite a few of us are customising themes ourselves. If you check back on other threads you can do quite a lot yourself - I have done many different colour and textures for my own use. Get in there and do it yourself!

I agree. Andy's themes are great, but when I look closely, there are three things I want, and none of them have all three: a reasonable level of contrast, highlights on active tabs, and maximum contrast in the headers in the TO. It is easy to produce this with a few simple changes to the Motools theme. Even better would be minor mods to Andy's Snow, so I'm hoping that gets finished soon.
