Multiple Crashes related to com.googlecode.google-breakpad?
Hi everyone,
Just wondering if anyone is experiencing multiple, frequent, out-of-nowhere crashes with DP 8.0? I've been working this morning on a faux trailer (trying to follow Eli Krantzberg's excellent DP8 advanced tutorial for soundtracking) and DP has quit/crashed on me at least a half dozen times.
In every instance, the thread that crashes is number 3 and that thread is as follows:
Thread 3 Crashed:
0 com.googlecode.google-breakpad 0x000000010273f62f google_breakpad::ExceptionHandler::UninstallHandler(bool) + 171
1 com.googlecode.google-breakpad 0x000000010273ff23 google_breakpad::ExceptionHandler::WaitForMessage(void*) + 351
2 libsystem_c.dylib 0x00007fff82e95742 _pthread_start + 327
3 libsystem_c.dylib 0x00007fff82e82181 thread_start + 13
Google-breakpad appears to be built into chrome and safari "and other applications" (apparently it is a framework that anyone can implement in their C/C++ code to provide automatic crash reporting). I've no particular love for Google so I'd like to remove this, but am not sure how to do so. (Removing Chrome and Firefox may get rid of it, but what if it is built into something else?)
Anybody else heard of or experienced this? If so, any solutions?
One totally unscientific observation and perhaps meaningless coincidence: This started, and my system seemed to get more unstable, after I upgraded the BEST engine for Galaxy-X...maybe THEY have used this framework...?
I have not upgraded to DP 8.0.1 because of issues reported here about VEP and synchronization.
It's a long shot, but I thought I would throw the question out there. Thanks if you have gotten this far.

Isn't this what MOTU is using to get DP crash reports sent to them?

I don't have this problem in DP8.0 at the moment so have held off.

If so, then something has gone really wrong with my install.bayswater wrote:Isn't this what MOTU is using to get DP crash reports sent to them?

Re: Multiple Crashes related to com.googlecode.google-breakp
FWIW not everyone is having those issues and it could be TDHs machine or other installed components are causing his issues. DP 8.01 fixes a lot of stuff, including multiple crashes. My recommendation is if you are using DP 8 you really should be using 8.01 or whatever the latest version is if you want to track down something as elusive as multiple crashes.nk_e wrote:Toodamnhip reported this:MIDI Life Crisis wrote:Why aren't you using 8.01?

If I didn't upgrade a program every time someone reported they were having an issue I doubt I'd every upgrade, especially not knowing all the specifics about the other machine and installs and what was actually causing the problem. You're really tying your hands in this regard and anything that MOTU has fixed to potentially correct your problem is being lost on your system.
Also, it is EXTREMELY important to repair permissions after any install, but in particular, DP8 and 8.01 get serious fixes with a permission repair. This cannot be stressed to much. It has stopped audio clipping, crashes and other issues on my system.

At this point, I'll give it a try. It's pretty frustrating.
I'll let you know what happens....
Thanks for the nudge.

Hey nk_e,
Does your crashing have anything to do with trying to play movies while in the Song Window? If so, this is a known bug; at least as of version 8.0.
