Take a look at Barefeats.com for a head-to-head ... the new iMac vs MP hex and others.
In my situation, the headless Pro still wins out due to connectivity, expandability, and the fact there is no attached monitor (my Mac s not in my control room). But, the new top-end iMac tests neck in neck with the 5,1 3.33 Hex MP.

Just took a look at one of them new 27" iMacs in a store. Wow, that some impressive screen!

The speed seems ok to install all the samples on it !!!!
