828MK3...confused, why no ability to mix PC input?

Post by Datadog »

Received an early Cjristmas present...an 828MK3 Hybrid.

Background: I'm running on a Win7, 64 bit machine with 16Gb Ram and using the newest MOTU audio drivers, firmware and CueMix updates. I have all of my MIDI equipment connected to a MOTU MidiExpressXT and the XT then connected to the 828MK3. The 828 is connected to my PC via FW.

When I run my DAW (S*nar or B!AB RB), I can assign all of the MIDI patches, volumes, modulation and other events through the DAW's just fine. However, when I use CueMix for my mix, I have no volume inputs from the VSTi's that are running on the computer. The only way to change VSTi volume is from within the DAW. Is this normal, or do I have something not hooked up right?

Also, if I highlight any of the "Monitor" buttons in CueMix, whether for my Main Out 1&2 or for any of the stereo pairs of the MIDI eqipment, there is no volume change when I increase or decrease the "Monitor Volume" dial on the upper right corner of CueMiX.

Help me out here guys, this just doesn't seem right....thanks.

Cuemix is an input monitoring mixer. It does not have anything to do with your VIs...if you are using a DAW, use your DAW's mixer to mix the VIs (cuemix having this functionality would be redundant).

As for your second question, don't take this as aggressive because it's really not meant to be...you should really read the manual. What the monitor button does is explained in the manual pretty clearly from my recollection.

Really appreciate you getting back to me on this. Your point is well made and no offense taken...just trying to learn and understand. Have gone over the manual several times trying to figure this out. Still, when I try to adjust the "Monitor Level" in the upper right corner of CueMix...even when set to my mains and having the main monitor radio button active...the "Monitor Level" dial makes no change at all in the volume level. It should shouldn't it?

One workaround for this is to assign main out from your DAW to spdif out. Then connect spdif out back to spdif in on your device. Now you will have output of your DAW showing as spdif in in CueMixFX. There you can assign it to any monitor mixes you want.

If you don't have spdif cable, use yellow connectors from the composite video cable for the loopback cable.
