This is carried over from a another forum about HUI, I wanted this to be specifically about the Avid’s Euphonix artist mix control surface.
.Having just purchased an Avid Euphonix artist mix, I am having some strange issues. I am running DP 8.01.
Right now, here are my issues:
0) I had to reinstall DP 8.01 for the Euphonix drivers to be seen inside of DP. Another user had this same issue which leads me to believe there is possibly some issue with the drivers being corrupted or somehow mad invisible when doing different installs of DP?
1) If I automate plug ins using the artist mix control surface, the plug ins move as directed and the data gets recorded into a DP track, you can see it. However, upon play back, the automation moves do not play back UNLESS you go INTO the plug and nudge the parameter you had previously automated. It’s like DP thinks the control surface is in charge after you initially take over control with the artist mix and directly manipulating the parameter INSIDE the plug in turns control BACK over to DP and only then will DP perform the recorded automation maneuvers.
2) Artist follows DPs faders just fine. However, Upon play back or when moving any plug in parameter that artist mix is assigned to automate, the faders in artist mix do not follow DP. So if you put artist mix in plug in automation mode, flip it so that the faders are then boosting an EQ, if you then move that EQ boost in DP’s plug in window, the fader in Artist mix doesn;t move. It’s a ONE way communication FROM Artist mix TO DP.
3) When changing banks via artist mix, DP’s mixing board does not change nor follow the banks that artist mix moves to.
4) Plug Ins don’t open and close correct. If I select a track to open puls on, it can be random which plug in window opens up. I have to nudge a know in Artist Mix for the right plug in to come up but this can be problematic as sometimes nudging changes a parameter so I have to be careful not to mess up settings just to bring up a plug in. And hitting the “top back” or exiting inserts mode does not make the plug in close like listed in the prefs of Artist Mix. I end up with a pile of open plugs ins.

Re: Euphonix Artist Mix control surface. Issues/Discussion
As you already know, I don't have my Euphonix.. er uh.. Avid controllers hooked up at the moment. It is hard for me to help diagnose the problem because of that, but I have a couple simple things to look at. First, make sure that in the Control Surface setup window, the "Listen to control surfaces in the background" button on the upper left side is checked (on).
If you haven't already done it, be sure that in the Eucontrol app, that under "surfaces", you unit is showing up correctly.
Also, I was never able to get the Artist stuff to work correctly while plugged into the 2nd Ethernet port on the computer. The manual said "always use port one on the computer." Well, since I had port one already taken by my network, I instead plugged the controllers into a (Gb) switch, which was hooked up to computer's Ethernet Port 1, and set the MC unit up to get the IP address dynamically, from the same router the computer uses.
Looking at your post, it seems possible there is a bug with this and DP8, but I can't know for sure without hooking it up here, which is not convenient at all at the moment.. I suggest posting here:

Seems like these guys have it figured out, and I see you've already been there.
If I can hook them up to my main computer in the next couple days, I'll see if I can repeat the difficulty.

CHanging listen in background doesn’t solve any of the issues.Killahurts wrote:As you already know, I don't have my Euphonix.. er uh.. Avid controllers hooked up at the moment. I thought I put it on Ethernet port 1. Is that the port inside of the 2, the one not on the outside?
It is hard for me to see the back of comp directly due to studio furniture.
I am sure calling AVID tomorrow will elicit some info too. For ex, I will write down your procedure of BG switch and dynamic IP address and see what they say?
It is obvious that there is a problem with two way communication through the plug ins from DP and back to DP. If it could be ethernet based, then hopefully AVId will know about it.
