DP8.01 32 Bit ML Freeze on Quit
Curious if anybody has this...
DP8 on ML Mac Pro freezes consistently on quit. When I say freeze, it's an "old school freeze" where you loose cursor control etc. The remedy to force shutdown by holding in the power button. Strange. Tried repairing permissions, etc.
I've got a 2408 and VEP running with an Alphatrack as well.
Any ideas? Bizarre and frustrating. Back to DP7...again?!
Thanks for any leads!

Have you reapplied the update? That can work sometimes.
Also, I assume you have also trashed the plist.
Techlink? Call MOTU?

Update the MOTU audiodrivers and after that, yes, repair permissions.
If the problem is still there uninstall DP and do a clean DP8 install.. and again after that.... yes, repair permissions.

Re: DP8.01 32 Bit ML Freeze on Quit
If it's bridge, if you quit it first it should fix the problem. No? A tech link to MOTU may be in order. Have you reported the crash with the new crash reporter? Is that even working on your system?

Re: DP8.01 32 Bit ML Freeze on Quit
Yo! It doesn't even get that far! Serious "old school freeze" when you loose all cursor/keyboard control and the only way out is to power off! I didn't even know that could happen anymore.
I think I'm going to try and get by with no 32 bit plugs for now. Too many days on this silly template!!!
Many thanks!

Re: DP8.01 32 Bit ML Freeze on Quit
Wow. That is serious! No black screen of death? No beachball of spinning pizza wheels?
CAn you post the crash report? There are a few super geeks around here if you post it (I'm not one, as you know) and someone may be able to track it down to a specific plug or cause more quickly.
I've had a couple of beachball freezes and one lockout (like you described it) in DP 8.0 but it returned after about 45 seconds, but never a complete freeze over. That sounds like a process that is not completing and dare i say it, it may NOT be directly related to DP but a plug that doesn't like 64 bit.
So at least two more things to try, my friend, if you're game:
1- Start DP with the option key down and remove all but the DP plugs. It could be another plug that is causing the issue. I am told Waves can be an issue (I don't have any Waves plugs so I cannot offer advice).
2- Try Plogue Bidule. There's a free, fully functional demo. It can be tricky to setup the first time, but you might find it works for you. If you get the same result, then there's a good chance it may not be DP or jbridge but a 3rd party plug.
I've done a few projects now in DP 8.01 all in 64 (no bridges, however, as I didn't need my 32 bit plugs) and things are purring along nicely [which makes me think of your dad].

Re: DP8.01 32 Bit ML Freeze on Quit
It's ceased for now. I'm not really sure where the crash report would be located as it's just a freeze! If it persists I will definitely troubleshoot further -- it's just a hunch about jBridge though.
I used Bidule a few years ago, but then switched to VE Pro and am super happy with it. I'm actually hosting my reverb on the same machine in VE Pro (32 Bit) by using the audio send plug in DP, kinda silly, especially because I also run VE Pro in 64 Bit on the same machine. But all is working now. Maybe it's time to do more than set up at this point....

So if you have VEP you should be good to go.

Cody,I hope you don't mind me asking but if you already have VEP,why were you also using jBridge?
I suspect trying to use 2 different bridging apps at the same time on 1 Mac might be the issue.

Re: DP8.01 32 Bit ML Freeze on Quit
Of course I don't mind you asking! I was using jBridge just for effects plugins for audio tracks. I suppose I could route them into VEP, but that's kinda wonky.
But it's also wonky having both a VEP 64 bit server and VEP 32 bit server running on the same machine...

Re: DP8.01 32 Bit ML Freeze on Quit
My solution was to just replace the 32 plugs to 64 that I could and leave 32 behind whenever possible. Haven't needed it yet and with Korg and MOTU vowing to update the Legacy and MX-4 plugs to 64, I should be free of the last remnants of 32 bit on my system.
