yeah the consolidated windows arent really that flexible.. I'd love to have 5 or 6 EQ windows arranged nice and large in them...ltho I am tryin to get to grips with using ht eEQ controls in the mixer...
or how about the "audio plug ins (audiosuite like) reverse audio etc..

mind you have to say DP7 looks waaaay better than the dated DP5 4 etc.. remember the horror scrollbars? who designed those?!!!

havent really looked at 8 yet..
more "sprinkles" like plug ins have little appeal to me( ok I like the option of proverb )
I would love to see things that a 3rd party developer cant address... like better more streamlined editing features... yes some have been added recently but not terrific...

does any one use a right click to copy and paste stuff?

To be honest, I've never used the EQ/Compressor widgets in the mixer. They may make for a good visual reference, but actually controlling them in such a small area seems like a bad idea. Since I have limited screen real-estate, I've always kept them off. Yeah, the DP3-5 look was pretty goofy. I didn't really mind it, but it was the age of bevels, and everything had to be all bubbly. It worked, it was easy to get your head around, but yeah, it was kinda silly looking in hindsight. That said, the DP6-8 default has it's own problems, and it's reflected in the contemporary trends of GUI design philosophy. Suddenly, everything is flat and low contrast. Sure, it might be more "mature" looking, but sometimes big brightly colored things are more immediate. I fear that we're on the verge of a flip-flop though. I just installed Adobe CS6 at work, and suddenly, everything looks like candy! Huge buttons with garish bright colors, giant colored cursors, etc. It would be nice to find a middle ground. Thankfully, theme's takes care of that.

But yeah, I'm with ya on developing more internal software features, and forgetting about plugins. At this point, MOTU has covered all the necessary plugin bases, and then some. Great EQ, great dynamic EQ, killer optical compressor, very usable limiter, convolution reverb, de-esser, guitar effects, amp models. About the only thing left would be a multi-band limiter, and there are a million third party versions of those. So, enough with the plugs, focus on the main program! The one exception (although I really don't care) is VIs. DP has always had a bit of a hole in the VI department. The ones it comes with are fairly rudimentary, and they haven't added one for years. However, I'd rather they didn't bother, because VIs are so specific, that they'll never satisfy everyone's needs unless they bundle in MachFive, which they shouldn't do. More editing features... MIDI PLEASE!

I don't like that you have to double click to open a plugin window. Single click would be much better. Plus I wish the plugins would stay on top. I also would like to have the option to only have a single plugin window open at a time, a-la (dare I say it) Pro Tools. It works well...

Except with a single click you can also disable, move, or duplicate the plug. Much more useful than opening it and double clicking really doesn't take that much effort, does it?

All I can say is thank goodness DP is not designed by a forum committee.

Well then, you probably have bigger problems than a simple extra click. My condolences.

Use the consolidated window, and they do stay on top. If you don't use the consolidated window, you can put them on other screens, other spaces, or arrange your windows as required.

Use the Effects Window. The drop down menus can then be used to select a channel and insert to get to the plugin you want.

Awright, now what's he got to complain about? You just have an answer for everything, and that took away his mojo. Now he has no choice but to go do what you said. Geez. Doncha love it when that happens?

WTF Shooshie, whhoever you are... I thought that this was a conversation about what people would like to see in an upcoming version of DP. I don't have any MOJO going on here, I didn't come in here with with any attitude...and yet you do! I don't get it dude. I've been a member here for years, tho I don't post often. I own all the software I use, and I've been using DP/Performer in one iteration or another since before 1995, I think it was. My partner (emile Tobenfeld) and I wrote one of the first MIDI software programs (KCS) and I owned DrT's Music Software from start to finish. I do have SOME knowledge about UI design and music software development.

Do I know you, have I ever had any interaction with you such that you have a reason to insult me in a public forum? You folks have a bad rep over here, and I have stood up for you on other boards, but no more...

BTW - I believe that I DO have some very valid points...

1) I do use the consolidated window and whenever I click on that window, it comes forward in front of any plugin window I have open.

2) I have a 30" monitor AND a 24" one but sometimes I simply don't WANT to put my plugs on a second monitor. I want them to pop up over the current window and stay there, like the transport, until I dismiss them/it.

3) it's nice sometimes to have one plugin window open and single-clicking on that insert in the mixer switches to the other plug. Besides, in my experience, the more plugin windows you have open, the bigger a load there is on your system! I don't know anything about an effects window, but I'll look into it. Maybe that will do what I want...

4) whether you open a plugin window with a double or single click will have no effect on other single clicks used in other places on the screen, or even on the insert I believe. Besides, when I need to check something on 2, 6, or even 20 plugins as I am working my way through a large mix over several hours, repeatedly having to double- click is a very real annoyance. And having to close those 2/6/20 plugins when I'm done is another pain.

So there you go... I'm sure you can pick all this apart as well. Why not call all your buddies to come over and watch the fun! (SHEESH) Shoosh...

Concerning the effects window, it's the window that contains any plugin. You can use the menus to navigate to other plugins so only one has to be used at any time.

Spaces doesn't need a second monitor. Just a key press to get to it. Worth checking out.

KCS: I had it too, from early V1 to Omega II. It had a lot of great stuff that current DAWs could benefit from. Too bad it never made it to audio.

I spoke too soon. If you keep the channel strip open in a side window, ONLY the selected track shows. Sweet!

1) I have 8.1 open right now and that is not the case. I open a plugin window in front of the consolidated window. I click the consolidated window and it comes in front of the plugin window. IMNSHO basically useless.

2) having to click on a dropdown menu in an effects window to select another plugin is a workflow killer (for me). imagine that I am using Slate VCC and don't have all the track consoles grouped. now imagine that I want to go through and group them. I have to double click on every insert, make the change, close the window, rinse repeat - maybe 10 times! now visualize that the single click and single plugin window is implemented... click and insert, make the change to the plugin, click the next insert, that plug opens and I make the change, rinse/repeat. much much easier, I don't care what anyone says...

3) thanks for the kind words about Omega. it was a great program that deserved a further life. oh well...life goes on.

I'm all done with this crap, I have real work to do. sorry I got involved in this nonsense. I should know better...

Sorry, I forgot to mention, you need to go full screen. I always do that in the CW, and don't think about it any more.
